I did read that these cameras are "laned". If you pass under the camera on the inside lane your speed is only calculated if you pass under the next camera also in the inside lane.

    See:

    http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23370879-details/Drivers+can+avoid+speeding+tickets...by+changing+lanes/article.do
That used to be the case when that article was written in 2006, but in Apr 08 they changed the Type Approval so that they can track you however often you change lanes.

  • In 'wild West Yorkshire' it is a well known fact that only 1 in 4 cameras have the film in it.

Even one WY Police camera operator said so.

yup i was trying to explain this to my mate, hes a bit thick

I was telling him i could spool the 406 diesel up to 300mph for a few seconds and still get away with it he was having none of it

Maybe his confusion was down to the fact you were talking hypothetically.....unless of course you have the fastest pug on the globe?

It is well known that Astramax vans are in fact test-mules for the UK-based F1 teams. There is nothing on the road that can go faster than a white Astramax 1.7TD with a ladder on the roof. That's why they are always coming up behind you on the motorway flashing their headlights for you to get out of the way.

    hmmmm....I hadn't thought about that.
Now that you mention it, I have noticed that the smaller the car the louder the exhaust the youngsters put on. It must make them among the fastest on the road too....they either want to race me or pass me.

I'll sit at 65mph in my 3.0 BMW Z4 Roadster and let them pass though. I just know i'd be embarrassed!!!!:rotfl:

  • I was wondering if it was just me that found he was overtaken consistently when doing the limit all the way through a stretch of average cameras!

I drive on the A2 every day through a few miles of these damn things to work and back and always get overtaken. I assume they aren't working or only work at a good few MPH over the 50 limit as I'm sure word would have spread and people would be driving slower by now. But then again, maybe the government are just raking it in from these people!

There are a lot of these cameras near where I live, I constantly get overtaken by others when driving in the areas where the cameras are. According to a traffic cop that I know, these cameras cost a lot to run and due to the cost they aren't all always switched on, often there is only 1 or 2 but not always the same ones.

I do know some people who have been caught speeding by these cameras
