@TM - I was led to believe that the acrylic paints were more durable and wipeable than normal paints.
Gloss wipes down quite well..........
I've been busy boxing in pipes and painting again. Spent forever on creating something to box the pipes in and due to how its arranged decided to create a freestanding structure - even managed to find some leftover oak to go on top of it.
Also tried to fix the catch on the dinign table and found that it had been moved previously but its also been forced shut at one point and damaged one side whch means you cant close it particularly well. Think I'm just going to get it replaced as I dont have the time or inclination to fix it myself.
builder and Roofer were there at the end of last week so the roof and ventilation should be fixed to the spec. Just got a couple of jobs left to resolve all issues raised by building control. That said I think I need to buy a router for one of them - as the replacement fire and smoke seal prevents the firedoor from closing so need to set it a couple of mm deeper into door. Getting someone out to fix it will probably cost as much if not more than buying the router and doing it myself. Anyone got any experience of routers and advice on them?0 -

Ok folks after some advice:
I need to fit a new intumescent fire and smoke seal to the door to the garage. Problem is that its marginally deeper than the seal I've removed. Needs a marginally deeper channel in door - literally a couple of mm deeper.
Possible solutions:
1. get a joiner in - would need to find one that would do it soon, that turns up and does the job. Given our history - not very confident of successful outcome.
2. Buy a router and do it myself - will cost less, be quicker and more fun.....potentially
going with number 2 unless someone thinks its a really bad idea. Currently looking at:

Also going to get a marginally wider one just incase.
Plan is to have a couple of practice runs (or as many as required) and then go for it.
Anyone used a router and have some tips? Seems a relatively straight forward job.0 -

cheers mate, been a bit busy... but i also have this little baby that ive been busy messing around with... few more things that i want to do it, i guess my missus knew it was best to hold off getting a car until the house had been sorted as i'm losing interest in the house ...
running cost arent as bad as i originally thought they would be:eek::eek::eek:Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
@stolt - very nice on both fronts. Love the lighting and wish we were brave enough to do something similar.
Is that a mk6? what spec? Looks like the same style alloys as my Mk4 GT TDI although perhaps slightly updated profile.
My current MPG is around 55 on my 160 mile daily commute - beat that
Placed the order for the router last night as I need to get things finished and the plan is to try and do it tonight - so any advice would be very welcome.
Also talking of lighting - we really need to think about lighting upstairs - we have a couple of pendants but due to the lowish ceilings I'm not sure if we can get standard shades or whether I'm going to need to shorten the flex first. anyone know what the usual thing to do is?0 -

Hi mate, its a MK5 R32, jeez 55mpg i couldnt get anywhere close, the best ive had is around 30mpg, but its more like 15-20mpg. Although its a 3.2ltr so its never meant to economical!!:) and i heard this somewhere on another forum , when they were talking them being thirsty cars ''that for something that drinks so much the day before it still manages to look so good in the morning!!''
cant help on the router frotn i'm afraid. with the lights my missus worked on me being the tallest and then set them as the max drop we could have.Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
Down on page 29 - think we need some new blood in this thread
Minor update from us - we think we've now satisfied all aspects of the BCOs actions so hopefully we will get it signed off. Still slightly nervous about the ventillation round the roof but fingers crossed he'll ok it.
Also finally resolved the insurance stuff or so I've been told - will believe it when the cheque lands in my hand!
hope you all have a great Christmas - I'm off on business next week (great timing!) so might actually get a little time to check in here i the evenings - providing someone else is posting updates0 -

Very glad to hear your insurance is finally sorted out, and the BCO too. :j
Sitting here in a very dim room with the snow coming down outside waiting for washing machine to be delivered. Eventually went for a Hotpoint as it was a Which best buy and it comes in black.
Next Friday we'll be sitting in waiting for fridge freezer to be delivered! After a very confusing time looking at lots of fridge freezers we decided to go for the Haier one in red! It just looked so cheerful we couldn't resist! The really great thing is it has one section between the upper fridge and the lower freezer that you can run either as fridge OR freezer! Useful for that glut of tomatoes I hope to have next year!

Stolt - was just trying to figure out the variant - my guess was R32 from the brakes
Nice ride - liking the wheels - they remind me of hokenheim wheels from back in the day. Great choice of colour too. I've been drooling over RS3's in Daytona Grey - never be able to afford one though...maybe not even an S3 let alone the RS!!
Most probably next ride will be similar to yourself or something from the Audi equivalency. Long way to go with ginishing off my house first thoughlol
