Thanks all,
Well my wife wasn't keen in the end to do the dining room this week so we spent the weekend going worthwhile jobs instead! Replacing pipework, raising curtains etc! Phew. Will keep you updated iwth her progress, a la Andrew and LC!0 -
Not a lot happening here. We've finally had word that the sofas are in stock but in very limited numbers so we phoned and confirmed everything again and the order is now placed (including extra 10% off and 3% on new cashback credit card
)
builder should be coming tomorrow to chip the flat roof but not heard about his roofer. Need to get that sorted as its the biggest issue the BCO has.
I'm hoping to be at the house for the next couple of nights to get some other bits tidied up. Hoping to repaint the steps but using a Dulux paint this time which is waterproof in 30 mins - stands a much better chance0 -
Builder came back today with chippy and they have boarded the loft for us.
OH has been up to have a look, but I'm still a scaredy cat over the loft ladder.
OH very pleased with how it looks anyway. So now we can really begin to move in!
Just move one loft's worth to new loft!!!
Cat-sitting this weekend, so back home for a couple of days, though will be back and forward with carp from home to house!
Spent an afternoon back home last week, was going to sort out more winter clothes to bring to house but got side-tracked by a load of recycling that needed doing. In meantime have ordered more warm tights etc to keep me cosy here until can find my stash of winter clothes at home! :rotfl:
We sort of closed up the caravan last weekend, but the boiler there needs attention as it turns off completely when it turns off. No hot water, and timer don't turn it on again. Worrying, so we've asked plumber to go in and look, OH will call him again over the next day or so to see what he says. All needs draining down anyway ready for winter as I don't think we'll be going down for New Year this year. But not impossible if we change our minds. At least we had a gorgeous drive through the mountains on sunny Saturday, lovely autumn colours and a beautiful sunset sky as we went over Rhyd.0 -
Bet that seems like a long time coming - I remember asking back at the end of last year when you expected to be able to move in.
I nipped to the house at lunchtime and although there was no-one there I stuck my head up and saw that the roof was about 2/3 done. Got some new paint this morning but due to forgetting my keys for the house and it being slightly damp didn't manage to get it on. hopefully better weather tomorrow so I can nip up at lunchtime again.
Going to hopefully do the boxing in of the pipes and electric box tonight and maybe get the painting of showerroom and kitchen done too but thats perhaps pushing my luck. In fact its almost certainly not going to happen but got to try0 -
Can one of you guys remind me please - with Osmo Polyx Oil do you put it on with a brush or a cloth?
OH did the doors with it and now I've found a handyman (he put up a curtain rail for me this morning and did a lovely neat job so I am happy to ask him to do other jobs now) I thought I might ask him to do the bannisters and spindles in the hall/stairs/landings which are still the original untreated pine from when the builders were here.
Has anyone used it on their staircase? If it's put on with a brush do the brushmarks show? I've googled but can't find how to put it on, probably looking in the wrong place.
We had the clear for the doors (which are oak veneer, sort of mid-oak colour) and as I don't think I'll be able to exactly match them I was thinking of just using the clear again.0 -

Hi: we use a brush ( bristle or foam) on worktop, window frames, spindles etc. Tbh easy to apply for all applications. If you haven't yet, check out the info on the Osmo site.

I always use a good quality brush for Osmo too TM. It's good to work with, brushmarks are not usually a problem at all.Herman - MP for all!0

Yup brush for OSMO here too on our floorboards - actually need to probably do it again to tidy them up before we sell. thankfully just the one room this time though0

Me again
paint question this time.
When we had the house painted internally, I asked the decorator for a durable paint for the kitchen, something which would be wipeable but not silk as I prefer a matt look. I said maybe something like Dulux Endurance (but I don't know if it's any good).
Nowhere near us sells Dulux paints and he said he would go to his usual supplier as they had some American paint that, although expensive, would do the job.
The paint came in a Johnstone's Trade tin (they do Johnstone's paint and mix up colours so I'm not sure if it is this American paint or actually Johnstone's) and it says Acrylic Advanced Technology Durable Matt. The label has the code for the colour and then says NCS Edition II Leyland Vinyl Matt Base Pastel.
Lovely as it looks, and the colour is perfect, I have found that it is not really wipeable. The least little splash, when you try to wipe it off, it leaves a shiny mark and being a pernikity perfectionist it bugs me no end :rotfl: .
My handyman is coming back at the end of the week to sort out some flaky paint in the sun room (a bit of damp coming in in places) and when he repaints I said he could do the whole of the sun room and the kitchen (an L-shape so couldn't do just one part).
Any recommendations for a non-shiny durable paint that is actually wipeable for the odd splash in a kitchen area?0
