First-time house renovation

@TM glad to hear it went ok. remember that in life you will never please everyone regardless of how hard you try. You did the right thing - TD's wishes come first
Cant help with the green thingies - they dont look dead yet so its not like my gardening
We've got the builder ready to go with the flat roof although he's said he's never chipped a flat roof with proper felt on it and doesn't see why ours requires it. Still trying to get hold of the architect but he's doing a very good job of ignoring me. Doesn't improve my opinion of him at all and while i'm sure he'd rather see the back of us and our house - its not going to happen until he finishes off the job!0 -

Finally got a call back - he wasn't specific but it sounded like his wife isn't well again and thats the reason for the lack of contact. Feel pretty bad about it but then I wasn't to know.
Anyway he's coming out on saturday morning so hopefully that will get things sorted out.0 -
@andyb - sounds like you're having a right time of it. Hopefully it all starts to resolve sooner rather than later.
I'm at the house tonight - first time for about 3 weeks - painted the porch and round the edges of the showerroom. Going to try and get into work very early tomorrow and get back here while its still light. If the weather is still ok the plan is to try and paint the front door. Failing that its more painting inside and trying to box in the pipework in the showerroom. Also going to try and sort through some more boxes that came back from the cleaners.
We got new furniture delivered today - solid oak dining table is more like banana shaped than flat so its going to be replaced next week. Wish they would check things before sending it out. Sometimes I really do think we are jinxed.
Also ready to order new sofas from House of Fraser in the sale but the 2 seater is out of stock until next week and only a limited number being delivered. We have someone watching stock every day to reserve one for us as they are not allowed to do it until its in the system. Looked today and found there was an extra 10% off and OH phoned up and asked whether we could get this price for our order seeing as we are unable to place it online due to the stock issue and they've said yes. that will pay for the stool0 -
Painted the walls of the front steps last weekend - didn't go 100% to plan. Posted a new thread on it but have alook at the pics even if you just want a giggle

Got the kitchen fitters in this morning and should also be receiving a replacement dining table. Going to stay tonight to try and make more progress - plan is to try and get all the window cills varnished and then get some silicon on them tomorrow when they are dry.0 -
What happened? Did it rain? :rotfl:Herman - MP for all!0

Not until the next day as far as I know but then if the temperature dropped enough to stop the paint curing then it might just have washed off? Answers on a postcard - and solutions also very welcome0

First thoughts:
'Something' on top of wall stopping paint from adhering properly.
Temperature too cold for paint to cure quickly leaving it at risk from weather. (Really looks as if rain or damp weather played a part.)
Paint itself an issue. (But unlikely since the sides seem to be ok).
I'd scrub the top with detergent and stiff brush to make sure there is nothing there that might affect adhesion, rinse well and redo on the next best day weather wise.
If none of those are the problem then I haven't got a clue.Herman - MP for all!0 -
i'm hoping it was just the weather/temperature too. will try again tomorrow as the weather is meant to be ok.0
