One curious thing he did say was that he needed to check the quality/type of the felt for was fire resistance? First time i've heard of that - surely by the time the fire has got to inside of the roof its a bit late for worrying about resistance???

Thats not so good. For future reference the accepted best practice if you do this is to immediately screw it back in again - should stop most of the water until you can get it turned off and drained/isolated. also if its a cold/hot pipe then running the taps will also take the pressure down.

Yeah - I did that. Screwed back in, switched off water, then opened the taps etc. It still trickled like a constant spring out, I just tried to bung a cloth over it.

Anyway, it gets worse - today I called the joiner who has cancelled fitting my kitchen (even though it's been scheduled for weeks) as he's over running on a job - typical is not the word. The kitchen is due to arrive on Monday - where I have time booked off work. I specifically wanted to be around for any snags or decisions etc.

I've got plenty of luck on my side...just all seems to be bad at the moment. Ugh!

    Hi guys

Sad news from me. TomsDad lost his battle and passed away on Friday.

Sorry it's not house related but I know a few of the "oldies" have been following his journey.

Much as I loved him and will miss him I am so glad he is now out of pain, I could never be so selfish as to wish him still here and carry on suffering like he did.

I'll probably be popping back and asking for your advice on how to do certain things. I'm OK with light bulbs, I had to change one last week and I flicked the fuse switch back when another bulb blew tonight! Not meant to be flippant, just showing you I'm on the first rung of the ladder of taking over the manly jobs. I'll probably be asking lots of daft questions on the green fingered forum too :o.
  • Sincere thoughts are with you and your family. Very sad news. :(

No question ever to daft (well unless I'm asking them!)

Please stay around and post when you can. I'm sure my posts will make you chuckle with the amount of mishaps I'm having at the moment, it's like faulty towers!

    Hugs!
    xXx

Dearest TM, so sorry to hear your news. Do be kind to yourself over the next few weeks and months, it takes time to sink in fully I suspect. At least it did with my parents, though that's a bit different of course.

    Hugs from Liverpool

Oh TM, I am so very, very sorry to read your news. As you say, it's a blessing he is now out of pain but there will be a big part in your heart missing now as a result.

I wish you much strength to get through these coming times. This may be a housey thread but if you ever have a low moment when you are alone you make sure you post here, about anything. I'm sure I speak for us all when I say we will be happy to lend a shoulder.

My thoughts will be with you. x

You probably wont remember me but I was on this thread back in 2009 or so and pop my head in now and again to see how everyone is getting on. Just wanted to say so sorry for your loss. Couldn't read and not post - hope you're ok x
  • Another lurker of this thread from when I was renovating my kitchen. Very sorry to hear your news Tomsmum, take care of yourself and I'm sure you will gather strength from your friends on this and other threads.
