You can have a bigger pic when there are less messy bits to zoom in on ;) did you notice I hid the paint cans behind the island, only for them to be reflected in the oven door. Schoolgirl error! :D

Rofl you cant let a little mess stop you taking a pic.... have a look at some of the pics on my blog of our disasterous extension. Bomb site just about covers it.

PS if you hadn't mentioned the paint pots I wouldn't have noticed (or gone back to check :) )

@ stolt - looks like a good plan for the windows. What wood is that door made from?

I spent yesterday painting again, basecoat this time to try and hide some of the imperfections round where the old fireplace was and then rushed through to other side of country to see OH and LLC (and the rugby.....) . Came back tonight and cleared out a lot of the remaining stuff in the dining room as it wasn't easy (_or dangerous to be more exact!) to paint and then finally put on another coat of paint on - Dulux Timeless which I found one and bit tins of. Might go for something a little more colourful for the final one (I've also got one and bit tin of Ivory lace too) but not sure. Might just put on another one the same and see how it looks.

its oak or a walnut, so not exacly cheap. Trouble is the majority of these double glazing suppliers want to supply you with white upvc and then be off, one even showed shocked when i asked for a black aluminium framedm window!!! wont be using them.

Found a plumber we like and wants £285 for moving the mains stopcock about 12ft underground and then making good, fitting an outside tap, and capping off the gas pipe that fed the old cooker hob under the floor.

    Still looking at cars though...;)

We had a slight glitch with the utility room, OH went round on Monday evening to find that one of the sinks had been installed, but in the wrong place. Cue texting to Kitchen Man, who promised to get onto his fitter and get it changed. Good thing they hadn't templated for the granite yet!

The two cupboard doors on the wall cupboards don't actually go there - we're having tinted glass instead, the doors will go on the other empty spaces.

Hoping to get round there myself this evening to take a look at it all. Been too knackered recently to manage come evening when OH gets in from work. At least he's on earlies this week so is getting home about 4.30. It's great now the days are getting longer! :j

@maggie - thats some size of utility room, I'm sure the master bedroom in my flat was smaller :)

@stolt - you shoudl know by know - ifs its not standard i.e. off the shelf - its gonna cost :D

Put a second top coat on in the dining room on monday but was late home last night and knackered so had a night off. Had a quick peek in and thought it looked pretty good. Will check tonight but hopefully thats the painting finished. Need to strip the paint from the door frames, put some plaster under the wooden strip that the skirting boards were nailed to as its come out in places (as always) but at least its just a rough job thats required. then I need to uncover all the skirtings and get a coat of varnish onto them while listening to the Scotland game on the radio. Biggest problem I've got in there is that there is no heating, I took the radiator off as its being moved to another wall, so everything is taking longer to dry.

There's a shower room off it, so in our dotage we can have a bed in the utility with its own en suite! ;)

The granite is in now! Uba Tuba, and I really love it. Glass doors arrived too late to fit today, so fitter will be back tomorrow to put them in and finish off.

Plasterer has been back in and plastered porch and under stairs, and patched up a few bits in living room.

The snowdrops and crocuses are up in the garden, and the rose bushes have begun to sprout, so better get there over the next few days and do some pruning.
  • Just starting with mine now... looks like a bomb site!

£2000 to replace 9 radiators (inc new valves etc) with all the pipes up to the boiler. The upstairs pipes will now be put below the floor and 4 radiators to be moved. Bathroom and wetroom are using towel radiators.

Upstairs bathroom is being opened up from an L-shape formation (separate toilet and bath) to a square shape. Getting quoted for £2000 excluding sanitaryware!

Downstairs disabled bathroom is being halved, build a new wall to create a hallway and small shower room with WC and basin. Is 1.9x0.9m too small for this configuration? Thinking of having a sliding door to access in the middle where the basin would be, this would have a 300mm projection and then the shower/wetroom to the left and the toilet to the right. Again, getting quoted for £2000 excluding sanitaryware!

    Hi chick21 :)

0.9x1.9 isn't a lot of space but provided you get the right sanitary ware I guess it can work. My MIL was (maybe still is!) going to do exactly the same and would have had a similar width space albeit slightly longer.

evening...... I dont get this recession type thing... had two plumbers round the weekend to price up moving the mains stop !!!!,and some window companies. Plumbers havent even bothered to come back to us. well one has but noticed my boiler and said i want to do something about that and hs now put on the estimate for moving a stopcock, a price to install a new boiler, if i could be bothered to waste my breath i would ring him and tell im hes not getting the job because hes a ......... the other one despite doing some worjk for us previously hasnt even bothered to give us a price, although i dont think he was confident doing the work. Managed to get a plumber and hes going to work on the weekends too!

window companies are useless, we want aluminium frames and they can only do UPVC!! neither despite measuring up etc has come back to us despite spending 1 hour here each.... amazing, obviously dont need the money..

very hard to find a aluminium company well locally anyway... which shouldnt be the case...

For the windows maybe try and find the manufacturers and see if they can recommend stockists/installers?
Upvc is just so much more popular so most firms will obviously offer that - but obviously they should make that clear when you tell them at the start of the conversation!

Good luck - your house looks great from the pictures

    I've found a micro basin http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=380311477106&ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT

Just need to find a toilet that has a short projection.
