@maggie - Wow granite looks great. Still wishing we'd done it but just couldn't justify it with all the other costs. LLC is doing great - started on solids although just a taste at the moment but hasn't had any impact at all on his sleeping. Also got a high chair and cage (aka the play pen) for him. He loves being up in the high chair.

    @aliasojo - 2 benches at last - time for a new pic ;)

@hopeful - I'm sure all will be fine, just give it a check for obvious damage and the builders figure out something is missing next week then you should still be ok to report it etc.

We've done nothing except look after LLC but he's at his Gran's today so I'm going to rush home from work at 5pm and get stuck in to the sanding, filling and possibly painting too. plan on doing at least 3-4 hours and the same tomorrow....... if all goes to plan :)
  • We have been in the same position. We moved into a 2 bed house and had to move all of our stuff in and renovate from there. The amount of Dust that gets everywhere as walls had to be sanded etc.
I gave my self a 3 month target and now we are into the 6th Month and almost finished.
What I would suggest is do 1 room at a time. Living room and bedrooms first then the kitchen and so on.
    I hope this helps

We called at the house yesterday after going to Kitchen Man to make final decisions on Utility room.

    We have a porch!

Oh, and we don't have a skip, think this is the first time since the build began! :j

OH just gone to house to take more photos, it's been dreadfully windy here, so not sure if the work on the porch and its roof will have gone ahead.

Kitchen coming along, we have some appliances in and unit doors are going in too.

Utility room is a bit of a mess, but those cupboards should be fitted today I think.

The glass for the porch is in the living room... It would be nice if it was in the porch today, but with the wild wind we've been having I won't be complaining if it isn't.

If OH has more photos when he gets back home I'll try and post them later.

I've told family and friends (who I hardly see these days) that if I ever threaten to do something like this again they should just chloroform me.

    Hope x

    Hi Hopeful,

You say this now, but when we finished our big job in October I said the same. And yet now I find myself surfing rightmove looking for nice renovation projects! You do forget the stress! I was looking through some old emails today from during the build, and you can see my stress and busyness through them. But now it feels like a distant memory!!

So don't forget, this too shall pass... eventually. And it will be worth the effort!

Maggie - place looks fantastic. Outside its really starting to look finished!
  • Wow maggie, it's all come on so far since I last popped onto this thread. Our worked stopped over Christmas and has only re-started very slowly. Chose the tiles for the kitchen today and hopefully going to buy them tomorrow. There are a few little updates on my blog, but here's the latest photo (although I made some bunting tonight and put that up along the curtain rail, so will need to update photos in daylight!). Still lots of fiddly little bits to do (edging strip, lightbulbs, tiles, floor, cornice, coving...*sigh*) but now there are pretty bits I'm placated for a while ;) island unit still needs shelves etc adding but it was made from a freecycled unit so can't complain!

@bibbitybob - looks great - bigger pic would be nice ;)

@TM - nice to see you back on - hope TD is doing ok.

@maggie - looks great as always.

I've done some DIY! I spent last night sanding and filling. Sanded the entire room again tonight and then put on a coat of paint. Going to fill a couple of holes that have only just become obvious - alhtough how I missed them last 2 times I went round is beyond me :)
Going to out another coat of paint on tomorrow morning before heading through to MILs to see OH and LLC. Think they are going to stay through until towards the end of next week which means I should have time to finish it completely.... maybe :D

You can have a bigger pic when there are less messy bits to zoom in on ;) did you notice I hid the paint cans behind the island, only for them to be reflected in the oven door. Schoolgirl error! :D

maggie, coming on really well. I finished off the sockets in the girls rooms, all painted and looking good. I also had some cracks around skirting boards so they had decorders mastic in ad all painted.

Had some window people in and also a couple of plumbers to price up some work.

Where we originally were going to have some french doors in the old kitchen (will be dinning room) we are going to have a large window instead, ive done a little mock up picture (too much time on my hands!!) and we have asked to put in slit of window on the far side of the dinning room aswell, not really for light just as design and to open up the side of the garden to the house a litle bit. frames will be black aluminium which wil match the extension.

back door at the side of the house will be just UPC with frosted glass as its in the utility room.

front door, cant find a company that can do what we want, ideally want something like this but is not cheap!!!
so far we have a found a local company that could do it.
