    anyone moved a stopcock?
No but i've channelled a hole out of concrete floor with only a hammer and chisel for our shower waste pipe. Is 1ft the depth? How long we talking in length? It took me days to chisel out 1metre in length of very hard, concrete full of flints..... Would strongly suggest the use of power tools !

The trouble is for that age of house you will (or should!) have a damp proof membrane in the floor so when you find it i would slit it with stanley knife peel it back and then use a suitable tape to stick it back together again after.

Might be worth contacting your water company. My parents had a new MDPE water pipe to replace old iron pipe and their water company's (Thames) subcontractors used moling equipment. No idea what it cost but they only needed to dig a hole in the garage floor and one near the mains stop valve out in the road and the mole did the rest in joining the dots. Took a few hours but saved digging up the entire driveway and garage floor which would have cost a whole lot more in time and labour.

So maybe do similar..forget the pipe that is already there and bring a new pipe in from the stop valve out at the road and run new pipe to your desired location. Then replace pipework internally as necessary to meet up with new stop valve.

Or maybe you need to buy a set of divining rods :rotfl:

lol, hmm yeah about a 1ft in depth for the stopcock, but ive got about 15foot of channel !!!! i'll be there for years. still going to to try to get some quotes from plumbers to do the work!!! good poin about the damproof, if I or somoene else does it that they do it properly. This was suppose to be the easy room after the trouble we had with the kitchen.:)

more bad news from me today. what with the amount of rain we have been having wife has just phoned to say the glass extensions roof is leaking badly! shes had to put a pot under it because its coming in so badly. Even though the company went out of business and then started up again they did get my build finished however a year later and the roofs leaking!!!! whats that all about, which in turn has now ruined the plaster on the ceiling plus the decoration.
I've left message but i wont hold my breath.
Just does my head in, year later and nothing but problems from start to finish........ I feel a rant coming on....

Oh no...not good especially with all the hassles you had with them.

Suggest not turning the spot lights on so as not to wreck all the lighting and keeping the kids out of there. When ceiling start dripping water there's usually a whole lot more water gathered behind.

Is it coming from around the skylight or near the edges of the flat roof? If so it could be related to the flashings around them which may be a relatively simple fix but sounds like the damage is already done. Or is water pooling on top and seeping through between joins in the roofing material ? Obvious thing is to check the downpipes aren't blocked so that water is at least draining away. I would bail off what water you can and get a big tarpaulin or two over it asap sloped away from the house (Toolstation do some large cheap tarpaulins).

Do you have emergency cover with insurance company or an emergency repairs helpline you could call?

Hi andrew, i havent had a chance to look at it as i'm still at work, time i get home it will be pitch black! I though i noticed some staining a few months back but i guess with the amount of rain we had from the picture the wife has sent me its at the edge of the glass but and your right it could be the copings at the top which aluminium perhaps water getting under there and under the rubber. Apart from the skylight i cant see any joins in the rubber and it looked as if t was a single sheet. Will have a look tonight via torchlight... I actually phoned the boss of the company and asked if there were any fitters down this way that could pop in... havent had a call back but fingers crossed they want to do the right thing and put it right otherwise i guess i will ahve to get someone in.... means the moving of the stopcock will have to wait... theres always something...

No helpful advice for you I'm afraid, just wanted to say I feel for you. Nothing worse than feeling like you're having to go backwards iyswim. Fingers crossed it's easily sorted.

Yeah I'm finding it hard to be motivated now tbh, all been going on too long and the things that were done first like the downstairs doors, have chips and scratches on them because of other trades doing their thing, not too carefully.

Not the end of the world and can all be sorted but I'm kinda at the 'sod the house I'm going on holiday' stage.

May I suggest take an activity holiday near the seaside in a wooden cabin...read: camp in my shed and do my decorating for me!!

With the dull and dingy days i just can't seem to motivate myself despite impending fatherhood to panic me into it! I think it's just that time of year with short cold days, yuk weather...recovering from christmas and illnesses etc. I never seem to get much done in January of any year. March when spring is with us, the days are longer and warmer is my most productive part of the year usually. But this year doing sod all until march isn't an option in this household! Wife is on maternity leave as from next week (for the next 9 months) so things should get moving when she starts cracking the whip!

We were supposed to have a maternity appointment yesterday to see obstetrician (midwife didn't know why but we received reminders by post last week)...got up early to be there for just after 9...paid for parking ...then receptionist says she has no record of appointment. It turns out that because of an appointment next week to a diabetic clinic it had been cancelled...just noone actually told us! OH had swapped shifts at work to be there which means she now has to work straight through until saturday. We weren't best pleased but managed to get our parking cost refunded.
