First-time house renovation

@aliasojo - I wouldn't leave anything leaking and i'd seriously fall out with them if a "proffessional" plumber tried to. and especially if they had messed up fitting the sink.
Merry Christmas folks. Not much DIY going on. LLC didn't sleep well at all on thursday night and we ended up at doctors and got some antibiotics. noticed some blood in his nappy las night so ended up at sick kids just to be safe but they checked him out and sent us home. He also went to sleep until 5am but I cant get him to go back down now (hence why I'm online at 6:30am on christmas day!
anyway we did manage to get the housing refitted on the extractor and its done properly this time too! dad finished off cutting round the cold pipe and managed to get about 3' of insulation pushed down and its not frozen since
also trimmed the front door to clear the new mat - well its a runner to protect the carpet.
looking forward to some food, drink , good company and maybe a pressie or two. Hope you all have a great day0 -
Not done a lot house-wise recently, and I assume from lack of posts you lot have been too busy celebrating to renovate.
OH managed to order oven hood online the other day, and we finally chose carpet and vinyl for the house. At least got the vinyl for the bathroom in the sale, and because the bathroom is so small we'll be able to use the leftovers to re-do our bathroom here as well. :money:
Think we're going to the house this afternoon to check the bird food and make sure the blind I bought will go OK with the tiles in the shower room. Then on to DD2's to deliver birthday card and prezzy.
Hope you all had a great Christmas, with lots of useful and indulgent gifts. Happy New Year! :snow_grin0 -
I've been in bed/on the couch for the last week ill with flu. Most I can do is sit with my laptop on my knee and that's it. No sign of it going any time soon either. That's what I get for ribbing andrew about his 'man' flu, I suppose.
What goes around comes round.
Happy New Year to you too maggie, and of course to everyone else also. :beer:Herman - MP for all!0 -

My sympathies to you aliasojo! Survived Christmas, even made it to MiL's party last Tuesday. But succumbed in the night to some sort of vomit and s**t bug that kept me up from about 12.30am to 4.30am  I really began to think I was dying (and to be honest wished I was dead  as on top of the unpleasantness was totally dog tired and wanted to lie down and sleep).
Gradually getting back to normal now (touch wood) so am glad at least managed to order the carpets etc. Though we've ordered the wrong vinyl.OH will phone them on Tuesday to change the order - we forgot to take the sample we had from Armstrong Flooring with us, and I couldn't remember which one it was.
We were promised sunshine today, where is it? Though it is marginally less grey and grisly than yesterday I suppose. Better finish getting dressed to go check the house I suppose. Would rather stay in the warm!
Hope you feel better really soon aliasojo! Hugs from Liverpool to you!0 -

..sorry i shouldn't laugh/mock the afflicted. Hope you get over it soon. I'm pretty much over it now apart from a few coughs in the mornings.
Christmas was at OH's parents for dinner/afternoon christmas day then after some deliberation (warnings of icy roads and being lurgified) went to my parents on Boxing day..we'd changed our minds about 3 times before deciding to go but the roads turned out to be fine.
Wife and i pooled together what we would have spent on each other plus some remaining wedding present money and other christmas present money plus a little bit more and ordered a new TV.....40" Sony Full HD tv. Ordered online on boxing day for £399 from John Lewis with a free 5 year warranty. Sold out pretty quickly. Should be delivered this week. It's our one last big spend on ourselves to replace the 1980s CRT TV that we acquired for nothing whose days i suspect are numbered.
We spent another day shopping around for baby's pushchair and car seat and got a decent deal on a 3-wheeler from mamas and papas. Suspect they make their money on the accessories but we got a 3 for 2 deal on those which eased the pain. Won't get it until about february but was worth taking advantage of sales and the lower VAT.
Also had to goto maternity for wife's glucose tolerance test ..was fine with finger-pr!ck test after fasting but the blood test 2 hours after the glucose drink they gave came back the next day as elevated glucose levels. So it appears she has gestational diabetes and has been ordered back this week for the works of scans and tests and see diabetic specialist. From what we've read if diet and exercise don't sort it then she'll likely be on insulin etc. Also means there's a possibility of baby having to be induced 2 weeks early. Plus as there are likely to be more scans we might now notice if it's a boy/girl . As we are at week 28 i'm sort of starting to panic of how much there is to sort out and that i'm not getting anywhere with any of it!.
So the next few weeks i simply have no choice now but to get on with the house as it's become pretty plain the baby has no intention of waiting for me to get my paintbrush out.0 -
Happy new year everyone, been quiet from me, seen most of you have been aswell. No house stuff for me, had a decent enough christmas, although my three girls and my missus have been ill for the duration of christmas, missed the sales (no bad thing for me) and first day out today. spent all morning taking down the 6 christmas trees ( yes 6!!!!) and lights and stuff outside, cleared all the christmas cards away, as much as i love christmas so nice to get a bit of space again.
Not sure where we stand with the house at the mo, my little MG is dying a death, going back round my mates tomorrow as the water pump is leaking (thing has had so much done to it over the last year its practically a new engine!) want to get another car, but the house is burning in the back of my head! dining room and downstairs toilet to do, still need a new back door and i want to knock out the window in the old kitchen to replace with either bi fold doors, or french doors, water pipes need moving in that room, electrics, and the the flooring....when i put it like that theres still so much to do...
Trouble is i want the car!!!!Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -
Stolt - sorry to hear about the sickness bug (that it sounds like) going round the family there!!
I know waht you mean about wanting the car. I literally have the entire house to get through first though!!! Not just a few windows here and there etc! lol.
I keep thinking once it's done (if it's ever done!!), should I get another house, or buy a new motor - purely just for fun and a break from fixing up property!!! :j
I've barely had a weekend off this entire year. I've worked every day over the Chrsitmas hols (except Christmas day and today as I'm working for my jobBOOO!!!) I had planned on really enjoying Christmas this year with a bit of partying etc but I've done none - boring me!
Edit:
Hi Andrew - the baby sounds like he/she'll be popping along very soon. My best mate (who's also my plasterer) is also due a new arrival very soon!!! I've told him to stop having sex as all these kids are keeping him from my house at the weekends! hahahaha"The future needs a big kiss"0 -

yep know where your coming from on this, altough this year ive had a break, i remember it well, ony last christmas i was still putting skirting boards on etc.
The car was/is my last chance to own a hot hatch before i look too old in one, (i'm only 35 lol), trouble is what i want dont come cheap and well i feel too guilty spending that on the car when the house should come first, although next door and over the road are car mad, and have there weekday cars then alittle porchse in the garage for weekends!!! but then they didnt bother with extensions etc!!!! make your choices etc doesnt stop me wishing.
will have to get the MG fixed up again and see if i can get another year out of it...:rotfl:Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!0 -

Yeah - though your house is looking top class! You've obviously spent a lot on decent gear!! Mine will be much more 'basic in comparison', which I'm still taming the management of spending...and I still want a car! hahah Boys and their toys eh? Out of interest, what car would you like?
As for being 35 and a hot hatch - you can live that look for a while longer...well I hope so as I intend to. That and the fact that my garage will only house a hatch anyway!! hehe Wish I had the money for a house with a garage for a weekend toy and drive for the commute. Maybe when I make millions on my first house sale I will be able to do so!! hahah!
Saying that my commute is only 26miles there and back per day, so I'll have to have a car that is fun and practical, and small, and german. Though until then, I'll have to continue to shop for bathrooms, kitchens and all the rest of the stuff!! BOO!"The future needs a big kiss"0
