Nope still cooking (as seems to be favoured expression by those asking!)

Had a scare Monday night at 3am but while I was worrying about the kitchen not being finished and other things, OH has fallen back asleep. Took me 2 hours to do the same! Eeeek!

the other thing I tried to do was adjust some of the kitchen unit doors as a couple didn't fit. first one took about 1 minute. Second one I just couldn't get right and eventually it dawned on me that the hinge was mobile. Finally figure out how to remove it and soon figured out the problem. The joiners had completely ballsed up the fitting of the hinges (they had to swap them over for some reason) and had drilled 2 holes for both screws right next to each other - and one set had merged together. Not sure how i'm going to fix it - I'm tempted to leave it for the joiner to fix when he's back doing other bits but then I'm also thinking I should just do it mysefl so I know its done right. thankfully there is a blanking pannel next to the unit so I can hopefully use longer screws to fix into that.

I really envy you doing stuff like this yourself. I'm not useless but wouldn't be able to sort thing like that out, I'd have to pay someone to do it! In my last house, i took off the kitchen cabinet doors to paint them. Did a lovely job even if I say so myself  but a couple of the doors i just could not get a couple of them to fit properly despite fiddling for hours with them!

To be honest the modern hinges are designed to fix problems with not being fitted correctly. The ones we have have 3 screws:

1 - moves the hinge in/out the cupboard
2 - moves the hinge in/out from the cupboard side
3 - rotates the hinge slighty from the horizontal

And between the 3 most issues should be fixable - unless the hinge has been fitted by a complete donkey - i.e. see above

@suisidevw - finished painting at 11:15pm last night and after a bad nights sleep the night before was only fit for sleeping. I'm going to try and get some networking supplies ordered for the weekend so if I'm doing PC related stuff I might get a chance to update the blog....maybe!

Well i've slowed down somewhat as i'm a bit knackered still from Monday.

Though i've filled in with cement the exposed cables in the hall and around the light switch. Other than that i've been mucking about trying to finish off the top of the toilet cabinet and not having much joy. Grouting the large mosaics on the removeable top had taken some of the paint off of the beads around the edges so had to touch that up. Then when i went to put a line of sealant around where the tiles meet raised bead around the back i !!!!!!ed it up and then had to clean it off again ..did that twice and it takes forever to get all of it off. That mucked up the grout so have had to go over doing the grout again! Which of course has messed up the paint! So i'm just going around in circles really and getting wound up by it! Think i might cover the cut tile edge with a bead instead of sealant in the end !

On the neighbour front...doorbell has been disconnected since yesterday. Didn't hear him knock the door yesterday (it was raining for a fair bit thank god!) at all but around 10am this morning he did. I knew it was him as i'd already heard his front door close behind him. I ignored and kept quiet for a while until i heard his front door close again..he waited quite a while..even Jehovah's witnesses don't wait that long!! I've been out in the shed sorting out the toilet unit top so if he has knocked again i wouldn't have heard. I suspect eventually he'll lean over the wall or call over the fence or bang on a window and tell me my doorbell isn't working! Probably going to get collared tomorrow as we need to load up car with stuff for a tip run..though as OH will be around at least she can rescue me!

hasnt been much progress for us, after the good start with the kitchen, the doors have to be re ordered for the wall units at the top as they have been cut wrong in the factory, so the fitters arent back until the 20th, and the corian tops are being done at the same time.... was going to smoothly for something that we do!!!!

me and missus put two mirrors up in the lounge and that was a struggle to get them on the way.... went looking for a front door and we have decided we want a contempoary oak door which are a fair bit of money so that will have to wait til next year! didnt like the upvc and composite doors as we wanted something a little different.

Also found a table and chairs for the kitchen which was great as i imagined trawling round hundreds of shops and this was only the 5th shop so i'm happy....

Cut the hedges in the front garden and turned into a whole day job, should have to cut them again this year, one of the neighbours has removed theres completely and i'm thinking that could be option as i'm fed up cutting them twice a year and its expensive to get them cut by someone. Would love some gates up at some stage.

oh and the bad news, my little MG went pop on the way to work on monday morning in the massive rain storms we had, on the outside lane of big roundabout, luckly a guy stopped and helped me push the car on the other side of the road. It sounds like its got something to do with the head gasket and i'm waiting for my car man to tell me exactly whats wrong. I managed to get the car home only for it to be towed off to the workshop! So thats going to cost £600 which is money which could have gone to the table! nevermind perhaps i'll win the lottery this weekend. Really fancy getting a newer car but i could do with another years use out of the MG.

it's a ZR but it was going to be my little project, like a little go cart !that i wanted for a couple of years but I just dont think its going to last that long, i havent had a call from my mate thats looking at it but been looking at a new car last night, just havent got the spare cash at the moment with the house and even though i need a car the missus is saying well next year concentrate on the car and leave the house but I want to at least get downstairs done next year. its a big ask. always loved my cars and ive been good since we were married and had some just normall cars but i would love a little hot hatch or something along those lines.

the doors a beauty but soo expensive though and its not as if i can sit there and appreciate it much, probably more for the benefit of vistors. but we want the oak doors internally so that will probably tie in nicely with them.

Yup, sounds like it'll tie in nicely. Lovely stuff. You say do hte downstairs, is the downstairs not done now? I'm right in saying you guys live there don't you as remember your children getting new beds etc!

MG ZR, they are pretty hot hatchy aren't they. I'd love another mk1 golf gti or the like. When I sold my last golf gti, I did so with a promise to my wife that it'd help fund the house but when we come into money in the future we can get one of these, a 964 Turbo. She agreed...... yummmmmm..... one day!

My OH likes cars too but we both decided there are more important things in life - especially at the moment. I've got tentative agreement I can have a reasonably priced classic car in the future - something like a Triumph GT6 - ideal for the new garage. In reality - I suspect it may remain a dream... Perhaps I could get a picture of one and hang it in the garage :)
