Finally getting started on my build - just things being ripped out at the moment, but a sudden wall removal has been a shock!

Only 7.5 weeks to go.... sure!

just looked at your link, exciting stuff. will love to see how it turns out. 7.5weeks... i hope it all goes to plan and you dont get many surprises. My build should have took 4 weeks, little did i know a year after meeting the company i would still have issues and the original company going bust:eek: serious.... good luck though.

7.5 weeks in my wildest dreams... I am planning for three months minimum. At least to have it to a level that we can move back in.

My builder is very optimistic though!

for everyone just starting out/half way through/at the point of suicide - keep going it is SUCH an amazing feeling to sit in your own extension/use your own sink/cook on your own stove knowing how hard you worked to do it all!

must say ive got the first easy weekend in (i cant remember) whereby ive just had a shed load of plants delivered that i've ordered off the net and they arrived today and i unboxed them they are lovely and decent size plants, ive ordered from j parkers and thompson and morgan and never had any problems with them but the size you get these are from www.best4plants.co.uk and cant recommend them enough... so ive got some planting and i'm going to create another artistic gabion.
Probably take the girls for a bike ride sunday if the weathers good plus I have promised both cars some love (easy!!!) a full wash, polish and wax.

Good luck to everyone for the weekend. lets hope the weather is good.

I have done a tiny little renovation before, and even in that little flat it made me happy every day.
Can't wait til this one is done.

I know it sounds fast, but I have been doing all the legal and planning work for almost a year now, which has been a never ending stream of work. In some ways this building bit is the easiest! Well... fingers crossed anyway..

evening everyone, me and the electrician have spent hours (7 nearly in the garden today) and installed the wireless light switch box and connected it all up, very cool, each run of lights are on a separate button on the remote control so i can pick and choose which i have on....... think its worked out quite well.
Yes it does look as if they are on fire, especially the reflection on the ceiling of the extension when you look out of the glass, can see this being my favourite room once a chair or two is moved in!!!

    Very nice Stolt :)

@ Lisa - Glad to hear things are working out.

We have picked our builder and they should be starting either tomorrow or wednesday depending on when the guys who have been assigned finish their current projects. Fingers crossed it all goes to plan and they are finished in 6 weeks. Of course there is still the showerroom and kitchen to be fitted, decoration and flooring to be done.

I was off for 3 days last week and was meant to be decoration with my mum but those plans were made prior to everything going wrong. Instead we did a lot of the brandering of the roof beams so that the insulation can have the required gap at the back. A slow and painful process but at least this way there shouldn't be any way the plasterer can complain. I'm sure the joiners would have just whacked them up with minimal fuss and relied on the plasterer to make it good. I'm going to get the builder to order the insulated board for the loft soon so we can see exactly what we need to do to get it fitted. Its possible that we may need to build them out a little further in places btu hopefully the insulation on the back will be deep enough that we dont have to.

Managed to get the lock out of the back door after another battle so its now got a nice new lock. measured it in place and bought a replacement from Screwfix before geting the old one out. turned out to be the wrong size so it was back to screwfix for the right one - which of course was the most expensive one they stock. And I'm sure when these builders finish I'll get asked to replace it again but I guess its a rather small cost in the grand scheme of things.

Spent quite a bit of time out in the garden (as thats definitely my mum's department) and removed all sorts of things. Also cut down some of our neighbours tree which hangs over our side and blocks light from our front room. I decided to cut back a bush thats at the corner of the house and seriously overhangs the path (which I'm going to make a proper path to the back of the house). Picked the branch and only after i cut it off at the base did the full extent of it become apparent and after much fighting with all the tangled branches realised that I'd removed about 70% of it. So the rest came out as well and it looks great - so much space there now. Will need to remove the stump but thats a battle for another day.

Also had our new water main pipe inspected - was meant to be a track inspection but of course its been filled in for months. I took pictures at the time but the guy wasn't even that bothered to see them. He said if you are happy it was far enough down then thats all that matters because at the end of the day if it freezes then its your problem not ours! Still its a better result than him asking for it to be exposed along its entire length :)
  • Jamtart I'm so jealous! Can't wait for the CARPET FINALE!!! Our wedding is at the end of August so hoping the final room of the house -the kitchen gets finished soon so we can get the carpets in and lovely new furniture!!
