Sorry if thick question, there are so many builds on here, but you aren't living there at the moment but hoping to in the next month or so?

Yes, boys like fire, that's very true! So you'll lay hearth and build up fireplace flush on the Tues and have the stove fitted on the Wed? Does that mean it'll jus tliterally sit on the concrete mix? Do you have a pic of the hearth as I can't picture a slate hearth very well however I hear they are the best!
  • It will probaby look like this

Although it looks like that one is made from slate tiles. Ours is solid 30mm slate ... like this

So we'll put some flexible adhesive down on Tuesday and then lay the hearth on top (it's actually in two peices for outside and inside the fireplace). The stove will then sit on top. Not sure when/how we're going to paint round it!

We have been living in our house practically since we started the rennovation. I would never recommend it!! Mind you we haven't had an builders in apart from things like windows we've done everything ourselves. Well actually, mostly my boyfriend. I just do girly stuff like clean up after him!

    Hi everyone,

stolt - I wish we had been able to screed all our floors but unfortunately they were concrete in the back and timber floor in the front. Thats what has made it so tricky to level. Ill look forward to piccys of the finished floor! Also the bannister is looking good! Its hard work but does look lovely!

Ill be spending Friday and Saturday painting skirting boards then we'll be fixing them on sunday. Then the last big job to finish is tiling the bathroom and while stuart does that Im going to finish painting and touching up bits.

I think we will be moving in on the 22nd/23rd so cutting it very ver fine

    xxx

thats very fine, but will be ncie to have christmas there though. i'll be doing exactly the same as you saturday, aswell as painting i've got to cut the new skirtings aswell. Was going to put them on then paint but think i will now cut them all to make sure they fit then paint them and fit them once dried. Still got new beds for my girls to make up on saturday aswell and i'm hoping there be easy, the dealer says they take only 10mins each to put up (yeah right i gaurantee its a couple of hours each!!)

With regards to the latex screeding, its something that now i've seen, its amazing stuff and can see why they need it for the amtico flooring. Its more money but i think it will give that perfect finish when its done, think we have found a tiler so if i can get the tiles here we could have the extension tiled before christmas.... not sure if i'm pushing it now:rotfl:can't even afford the kitchen to go in it.

That's really nice above and if it looks like that it'll be stunning! Love the slate too, did you have to give them the measurements or a generic size?

Been living there all that time? wow! did you just do one room and move into that then work on the rest or upstairs complete etc? Bet you can't wait to get rest of windows in! Are they making good/plastering areas where they have gone back to brick etc?

We have to give them the exact size after it was rendered. I definitely left that to my boyfriend because I don't want to be responsible if it's the wrong size!!

We bought the house in mid May and moved in in July. All we planned to do was get the two bedrooms done before we moved in. We rushed them a bit and when we come round to do them again I think we'll get them re-plastered. The bathroom has been on-going but we've been using our bathroom downstairs until now. Our lounge was non-existent and just used as a a storeroom until a few weeks ago. I spent most of my time in the bedroom apart from when I was working at my desk squeezed in the lounge. I found it stressful!! We're getting there slowly now we have a decent bathroom which is almost finished and sort of a lounge. The kitchen still drives me mad as it's yuck and so messy! I love cooking as well so it's a real pain. I think it would be easier if the house was bigger or we had a garage to store tools etc. That would make a big difference. Also my boyfriend is pretty messy and I am tidy freak!!

But as I always say to him we are lucky we have a house together than we can afford to do all this to and we love having our friends over and showing them the progress. Never again though!

lol, you will, give it a few years you will be willing to go through it all again. i said the same thing after our first house, what makes it even worse now is that we have the kids to look after and have to try to tidy up after us so they don't hurt themselves on something, whereas before we use to just close the door to the room we are workign on.

sounds like everyone (ok most folk :rotfl: ) is making good progress and doing lots of thinking about christmas too. I'll need to find time to catch up but at the moment I'm pretyt much split between work and sleep

We've not even started thinking about that yet other than where to put a tree. Think at the moment its going to have to be on top of the dining table in the bay window.

builers have made some good progress on the roof and the trusses (which are absolutely enormous!) are all in place as of last night but rain has stopped them boarding it this morning. Hopefully they will do that tomorrow and get it felted, providing the forecast is right of course.

They have ripped out the kitchen this morning and are installing the cooker, washing machine etc in the back room (just the other side of the wall) just to keep us going.
They've also said that they aer hoping to be finished by the new year which I find highly unlikely but who knows.......

OH has also ordered the kitchen this morning and it will be delivered within the next 2 weeks as I'd previously spoken to them and they said they had enough stock to supply what we wanted without having to rely on the manufacturer. We really need to order flooring for the kitchen and sitting room so it can be put down before the kitchen is installed.

Also need to think about appliances as I had been advised to put it off until the new year to get sale prices but if the builders are going to be finished before then that might not be an option. Mind you I'd rather have the kitchen installed than save a little on the appliances.

I've been taking pictures and will update the blog when I get a chance :)

Urm, lotsa stuff happening with people, Good Luck to All.

I am in a blue funk over everything. It all feels so scary.

The damp stuff is exceptionally scary.

Very smart Jimmie, love the black (?) door.

Maggie Don't be scared, it will all work out OK. Just think once you've sorted the work in the house out, you'll have that wonderful garden to play in!

I'VE GOT NEWS! TomsDad is coming home tomorrow :j. It's still very early in his recovery and he will probably only be able to sit around the house but at least he will be home. He's looking forward to being in his own bed and having better food. His appetite is very tiny, he told me today to do portions about 1/3 the size of his normal ones. He's having a blood transfusion at the moment to give his red cells a boost before he comes home. He has to go back twice a week for checks/blood tests and his appointment at Bristol has been put back to 30th December :T. They're booking him into the flat overnight so that he doesn't have to go there and back in one day - at last someone's seen sense over this!
