I'm tempted with Ivory too.. tester pots are definitely the way to go as we learnt with the back bedroom! :)
It's worth doing what i do and paint the testers onto a piece of lining paper (say 12"x12" but give it a couple of coats to ensure full coverage) ..you can then take your bit of paper and stick it around the room in different places and different lighting conditions at different times to decide if you like! I then keep the bits of paper somewhere safe (inside the box with all my painting gear) so you can use again. Don't forget to write on the back what brand and colour it was! The cost of the tester pots soon adds up if your not very decisive! You can usually get quite a bit out of a tester pot so keep a hold of it. We have a big bag of tester pots contributed by friends/family - some probably long discontinued - can be circulated between you a few times!

Also, it only needs a mucky kid (thinking of my grandchildren here :rotfl: ) to put their hand on the wall to balance themselves while putting their shoes back on

Guilty as charged M'Lady :D ..i'm always using the walls for support. When you look around the house you can see how much more prominent the marks are on the white in the bathroom compared to other colours. It did look lovely when it was freshly painted - just as well it's a work in progress! Standard matt can actually be wiped to a certain amount . With children though i think the endurance stuff is essential..let just say my sister had an incident involving felt-tips last week - face, clothes, walls..everything!

Oh yes, we did that. Not at a Dulux Decorator Centre though but at a local store which has a mixing machine. We chose from the Dulux colour card and our decorator had all the colours mixed up with Leyland Trade (his preferred brand).

Hi...we've done the same with Leyland as well...handy having one just down the road as opposed to traipsing halfway across the county (not an activity in the spirit of moneysaving);)

    You're excused dear!

Mommy to dear GS aged 6: Jack, sit down to put your shoes on.

Jack: No mommy, I can do it ........... struggling to stand up and wobbling all over the place.

Nanny: It's easier sitting down Jack.

Mommy: JACK! Sit down on the step.

Jack: NO MOMMY, I CAN DO IT. YOU DO IT SO I'M DOING IT.

Mommy gives up. Nanny walks away. Jack holds onto the wall.

that floor looks lovely, we are having amtico laid in a herring bone patten, looks real class.

Cheers Stolt, it was a nice suprise under the terrible carpet! I think it probably took us nearly 50 man hours between us both but definitely worth it, hiring of the machines was £80 for a few days and the Osmo only £50 a pot so £130 all in. Better than the £1k or something the flooring companies wanted!

If you were in S Wales you could use some of our testers! Probably spent £25 on testers for the upstairs, but no complaints, the colour in the brochures compared to on the wall is rediculous! FYI, we have blossom white in small room, jasmine white (really like this colour, not brilliant white but a bit softer) in the spare room and apple white in our room. Aged White Crown Period Eggshell for our picture rails and skirting = beautiful!

Reminds me of a bus shelter :rotfl:..though the compulsory graffiti is missing! Still at least the lintel is doing it's job!

yes it certainly does, horrible messy work but really does look the biz when its done properly. We had a touch like that in our old house, pulled the carpets up and there was parquet flooring underneth, perfectly kept nice by the carpet. Sanded that down and it looked good, in fact i think thats why the people that bought our house because they loved the flooring.
Listen to what people say, but watch what people what people do!!

    Hi everyone,

    Wow youve been chatty!

Just a little update from me. Spent all of last night varnishing the doors as the joiner is coming back on Saturday to re-hang the doors after the carpet and flooring has gone down! Still got a second coat to do tonight.

Ill join in the ill show you my fireplace if you show me yours...

Although its not a real wood burner I do love it :D

Im really pleased with the floor too. Only problem is its quite springy in places. We spent a whole weekend trying to make the floor level and its made no difference! Im hoping the boards will bed in but if not anyone got any ideas for what we can do? Cant screw them down as we have under floor heating.

littlerose12345 - We had the same dilema with our hall and went for a warm creamy colour (crown - ocre) Its really nice!

    P1010322.JPG

It looks warmer under artificial light but it is actually quite subtle!

jimbugalee - Im looking forward to seeing what your windows look like! Bet it is rather parky having big holes in your house!

suisidevw - Your floor really is lovely! When we took our carpet up in the hall there was a sort of parquet flooring but it was in a terrible state and had to be taken up!

stolt - I wish we had been able to screed all our floors but unfortunately they were concrete in the back and timber floor in the front. Thats what has made it so tricky to level. Ill look forward to piccys of the finished floor! Also the bannister is looking good! Its hard work but does look lovely!

Ill be spending Friday and Saturday painting skirting boards then we'll be fixing them on sunday. Then the last big job to finish is tiling the bathroom and while stuart does that Im going to finish painting and touching up bits.

I think we will be moving in on the 22nd/23rd so cutting it very ver fine

  • That floor looks lovely Lisa - what is it? That might be a silly question if the answer is 'wood'!! Looking forward to replacing the floorboards in our lounge.
