Its engineerd oak flooring thats been hand scraped to make it look old. I do love it but Im hoping some of the boards that flex will settle a bit. It only took us a weekend to lay too!

All these fireplaces..no wonder I want to replace our living flame fire (old classical type look) with a more modern electric one. Dog is far too inquisitive to have flames about (though i realise once we've smelt his burning whiskers once it probably won't happen again!) and i don't want to muck up my walls with vents plus will save on servicing costs that we can rarely afford. Big sticking point is the lack of funds as per usual ..quite depressing when you know what you want but have to wait until you can afford it! I'm even tempted to trade up for a house just to get some cashflow back and start all over again!

I wanted one like that but couldn't have one 'cos of the 2' thick random stone chimney breast, couldn't even drill through for a balanced flue for a gas fire, and we ended up with an electric one (but it's nice!), and you and Stolt are showing us your lovely gas fires and making me drool and go green and I shall sit here for the rest of the day and be sad now 'cos you've reminded me how nice they are and that I couldn't have one and I shall stamp my feet and be miserable then I shall look for chocolate to cheer me up and realise I haven't got any then I shall be sad again so I'll have to make do with the liquorice allsorts that I bought for TD but he can't have 'cos there's coconut in them and he can't have uncooked coconut at the moment -< breathe > -

    OK, only joking :D

    Love your fire Lisalou.

    Top draw Lisa.

Why do so many people go for electric? Is it because they haven't actually got chimneys in their houses/new builds etc? Is the cost not an issue?

I think I just love the smell of log fires after always having one in our homes growing up!
  • The window men have finished here for today. In about 6 hours they've replaced the two bedroom windows, kitchen window and door, knocked a big hole in the lounge wall and installed french doors. They'll come back tomorrow to finish off and fit our new front door which I am most excited about! :)

excellent stuff, cna't wait to see more pics! The fireplace looks great replastered! Was the fire just to check for where the smoke went to or literally just to burn stuff? Are you going to lay the hearth and fireback and get them to connect up the stove? Very exciting indeed!

Looks like they are making progress with the windows and doors! Sounds like you're getting a great deal at under £4k as well! Brilliant stuff jim!
  • I would look better if it wasn't full of rubbish ... they'll be much better pics when fire is installed :) The fire was literally just to burn stuff .... boys eh?! pft ....
We're going to lay the hearth when it finally arrives from Wales. It's meant to be here tomorrow before we go off on hols but just heard back it won't come until Monday so it'll have to be delivered to my parents house and installed when we get back on Tuesday afternoon ready for stove fitting on Wed AAARGH.
Windows are fab :) lots of dust downstairs. I'm just waiting to finish work so I can manically clean the lounge
