Kaupthing Edge VS Icesave – which is the best savings account?

I have £10,000 to invest in a savings account and I have narrowed my options to either Kaupthing Edge or Icesave savings accounts. I visited their web sites but I can not decide which one of these two savings banks to invest my money.

I will like to know which one of these two savings banks you believe is the best savings account in terms of their products, customer service and the security of my investment.

All opinions are welcome especially those with direct experience with the banks (Kaupthing edge or Icesave)or alternatives that I have not considered.

If you ignore the media scaremongering, both are excellent - and as your are saving under 35K you are fully protected should the worst happen (it won't).

I like both, they are both excellent companies, KE tends to push it's rates up very quickly when the overall rates change.

Most sensible people on these forums agree they are good companies, with quality customer service.

Yes, with KE and they are excellent, several friends have Icesave instant access accounts too, and have had a similar experience, you'll find hundreds of people on these forums very happy with the service, why not run a search?

I'd recommend both in equal measure.

I have accounts with both and the customer service and interest rates are good with both. You will find a wide range of opinions and/or speculation about their respective stabilities in the press, internet and on this board. Both receive protection to £35k.

Really, you read all the threads?

There are a few ill informed posts when things go wrong, usually followed up by many many posts of people saying how good they are. But even fewer complaints.

For example, read this very recent thread:

The first post is someone complaining (because they didn't read the information, and the problem was from their side, not the bank), and it is followed by lots of people explaining this and how good they are.

If you are that bothered, why not look elsewhere? I think you need to make up your own mind, and do more research, no one can make a decision for you!

Personally the service I've have from KE is easily the best I've had from any bank/BS. And I'm very happy saving with them.

My experience with them both are excellent, Icesave were my original choice, and hold accounts in both. I've replied to many threads about Kauptings excellent service many times. I've never needed to use the customer service of Icesave, but that of Kaupthing is superb.

Be aware KE does not do joint accounts ... whilst Icesave does....

Perhaps people with a KE account would go and place their vote about how good or bad KE's Customer Service is. That way we can get a quantitative view on that question.

If the exercise is successful, I/we can make some similar polls for other banks.

How often do you use access your savings account with KE or Icesave?

because the more times you access your account the likely hood that you will find faults with their customer services. I have read in this forum and other forums that many customers had problem login into their account online.
