Hypno's "there's more to life than debt" diary.....

I have 2 credit cards and I use one, OH uses the other. I would always pay more than the minimum on both, even when he could only afford the minimum. Barclaycard (his one) was near its £400 limit when I got a letter saying they had doubled it to £800. OH was on his way to an exhibition (to do with work/hobby) and then to his brothers for the weekend. He had some money but could have done with a little more. Hence I called him and told him that if he was desperate he could put something on the CC and told him the new limit (lot of the stall holders know both of us so would have been fine with him using "my" card). He didnt buy anything big so I presumed he hadnt used it...until I got the statement. He had withdrawn £200 CASH! All had been wasted on fun and eating/drinking ( a rarity but not the point). Neither of us can afford to pay it all off so are being charged extortionate rates until Jan when I hopefully can clear a big chunk of it. Oh, and he has used it for petrol etc since, when I have said if you need it ask me and I will get you the money. Last week I swapped CC's with him so at least if he spends on this it will be the normal rate and not cash rate. ARRRGGGGGGGHHHHHH! Sorry for taking over the thread hypno!
I guess what I am trying to say is.......I know where you are coming from.0 -
Hi Hypno
As Dragon (:hello: ) says - that is a good point. At least your OH 'gets' it and his misdemeanors are few and far between!PigginSkint's debt free diary

Not yet - we are going through their complaints procedure which seems to involve lots of letters saying "thank you for telling us that you are not happy with our service".........but as yet little progress. They have until the end of the week before the next stage can take place, so I have to allow them their full time, before I take it further.....
dmv - bah to all things credit card related
going back to something debtfreefuture said - it is indeed only 5 weeks until the end of 2008 and I need to start making plans for 2009.
I want to be realistic, but at the same time challenging. The secured loan we have is £11500 ish, and has to be included in "debt" because it was used to consolidate, whereas if it had been used for house improvements I would probably count it in with the mortgage (if that makes sense!).
But, for the purposes of a challenge, it would be good to be only left with the secured loan at the end of 2009.....That means paying off about £30k in 2009. I have done £24k ish in 2008 which include times when I was either earning less, or a whole month when I was "between jobs" so I don't think I am being too daft in setting the £30k target.
To end next year with just the one loan left would be incredible. So that is my aim!

Good luck with that hypno - I hope 2009 is a good year for you.
Oh I think you said you have bought take that tickets? ITV are advertising a take that show which will be "coming soon". Seems to be worth watching and would appear to be your thing?0 -
I only started to like take that when they "grew up" - never really got the whole "boy band" thing in the 90s! I will be watching on the telly though!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. I'll set it up, Taxi. The last one started 1st December so I will do the same for this one.
I have a slower start this morning as I am working at the boss's house this morning, so I will set the challenge up once the kids have gone to school etc.Successful women can still have their feet on the ground.
