S_G i used to agree, but last week i had to do a 300 mile journey late at night. instead of a steady 90 i did a steady 70. it didn;t take me much longer, i was much more relaxed when i got there, and i still had a quarter of a tank of petrol left (usually empty by the time i get there!).

    i'm now a speed limit convert :)

it should have taken an hour longer according to your figures, I wouldn't class that as 'not much longer', just under a third longer than doing it at 90mph

Rach.. how long did it take you?

I went to London on the 9th December 2002 and it took me 2 1/2 hours from PReston... i was proper relaxed when i got there cos of the time and i could watch United turn Arsenal over in the pub.. only thing that didn't relax me was taking another 3 hours to get to the hotel in Notting Hill and missing the football..

Going that bit slower helps the environment alot as well because of the increased fuel efficiency.

Chance to do 60MPH would be a fine thing.

Last week I got stuck in at least 5 traffic jams on M6 M1 & of course the carpark that is the M25.

I hope you don't all drive at below 60mph in the middle or outside lanes when there is nothing in the inside lane.

I do about 30000 miles per year and it is definately getting worse on the roads.

you should put your peg down and get it done quicker, especially if it's at night...

stay under 100 though cos if you get caught over it's an automatic ban

actually on a road with a 70mph limit doing 95mph or over is an automatic ban

and on 60mph roads 85mph or over is a ban

where did you get that from Glad?

For as long as i can remember it's an automatic ban when you go 30mph over the speed limit on any road. Which is 100 at 70 and 90 at 60.

A google search for "automatic ban" + motorway + 95 brings 3 results and none of them saying that there's a ban at 95.
A google search for "automatic ban" + motorway + 100 bring 27 results with some saying about an automatic ban.

    According to
    http://www.speed-trap.co.uk/Accused_Home/SpeedVSFines/SpeedVSFines.htm

96mph is a court summons which isn't always a ban.

and another one for the over 100mph argument..

(not being picky but this is the first time i've seen anybosy say anything about 95mph)
