DRIVERS - SAVE over £300 per year

I personally do about 25000 miles a year. I spend upto an hour each morning and another hour each evening driving to and from work.
I'm always in a rush to get home, and l would never drive at less than 70mph on a motorway unless l was stuck in traffic.
If you are going to drive at 60mph on a motorway you should be considerate and stay in the inside lane and remember the lorries around you are limited to only 62mph so try to not make them have to overtake you - otherwise they block the middle lane and cuase more traffic problems than you are creating yourself by going slow.Sense is not common.0 -
Wobly you are so right, I do 18000 a year all on the motorway, i think thats about 3.51 an hour to slow down to 65. doesn't seem worth it.
I love it when people get on their high horse (forget the name of the poster) saying that speeding is the main cause of accidents, bad driving is. i tried slowing down to save on petrol but then i was in and out of the first and second lanes to pull round lorrys all the time. they just pull out on you which is pretty scary. the fast lane is much safer and less stressful from that point of view.
sticking to the speed limit doesn't guarantee you any safety, especially when it means spending two hours a day with mad lorry drivers and those old people who drive in the middle lane at 60mph not over-taking anyone.0 -
I agree with that Italia.
Accidents are the result of bad driving.
I can't remember the number of times in the past week l have had to blast my horn at another driver who almost crashed into me, it's so many
Not to mention the fact that in the past 2 years l have been hit 4 timesby other drivers, all been their fault, and all paid out in full.
I'm beginning to like the idea they have in the States where u have to redo your test every 5 years - makes sense to me. Maybe not everyone, but at least those who are caught driving stupidlySense is not common.0 -
I don't do a great deal of miles but always seemed to be in a rush, especially to get to work. ( 10-15min journey). >:(
Icing on the cake was crashing my beloved corrolla just before trading it in this June. My fault, pushing too hard, leaving too late etc. Amazed I walked away without a scratch. Got breathalysed, had to show documents and was thoroughly inconvenienced for several weeks. Dented pride, written off car, one lucky f***er!
Bought a brand new Avensis ( discounted by 2500k of course!). Has a trip computer showing mpg since re-fuel. It's changed the way I drive and the way I think about driving.
I'm now much more relaxed and more aware of the fuel I use. Get a kick out of getting more mpg, driving safer, not scaring the wife and youngster anymore or pedestrians/drivers. ;D
Amazing part is, I don't take any longer to get to work. I'm not standing on the brakes and accellerator or getting raged at other drivers (usually!). I arrive at work with a totally different attitude and I'm more productive because I don't need a 1/2hour to calm down.
Pity it took a severe crash and 14000k of new car to make me realise. :-[
Take heed, check your speed and save your pounds! (and maybe your life!)0 -

The courts already have the power to make someone re-take a test for certain driving offences but i guess like everything they just rarely bother using it.
Problem these days is most people are either watching the speedo or multitasking between phone/makeup, etc... but with less police on the roads and more speed cameras so long as you keep to speed limits you can do whatever you want with little chance of being caught >:(0 -
Anyone doing 60mph on a motorway is going to be a pain nowadays, and will probably spend the journey sandwiched between trucks, breathing diesel fumes.
I recently did one of my regular 500 mile trips back from Germany, alone for a change, without the family, and as an experiment kept to about 70mph. The results were surprising, with minimal time difference, didn't get in anyones way, and did the whole trip easily on a tankful, (2ltr Mondeo). Have to admit that it was a bit boring, if I'm being really honest, but it does make sense. It's a boring trip anyway, really.0 -
My company bought a toyota prius. Its a petrol engine with battery power "hybrid synergy drive" It averages 55mpg. Because of the high fuel saving (up to 60mpg) on motorway I tend to drive much more within the speed limits and it is true to say that usually the journey does not take much longer, It has a sat nav so i rarely get lost and therefore dont waste fuel searching for premises ( i do 25k a year). It is 105 rated so i save a load on tax compared to my previous company car a volvo s40. I pay for my own fuel so instead of 30 mpg i now get 55mpg. I agree they are expensive for a saloon but what a great car. Its exempt from congestion charges (except £10 admin fee). Its air con works off the battery so doesnt use fuel to run.The best work is the cheapest as the quality remains long after the price is forgotten0

Jaysis, this is a very old post! Have you been digging around in the bin ends Donnie?"There are no pockets in a shroud..."0

quote 4. Fewer accidents (speeding main cause, affecting excesses that would need paying, and increased insurance premiums in future years)
its not the speed that kills or harms you its the stopping that doesneed to have a lightbulb moment0 -
Donny Darko; your battery is charged by something ( either your engine or fossil fuel electricity at home ) so I am afraid you are using fuel to run your air-con.
On a similar note electric cars are powered by power stations which are inefficient and enviromentally unsound.S!!!!horpe0
