Back to the food...
A recipe for Humble Pie.
Take 3 weeks of worry and stress and leave to simmer.
Add alcohol and a night of insomnia.
Mix in several hours pouring over doom and gloom on the internet.
Bring to the boil.
Read a newspaper article.
Lash out and be unjustifiably rude and insensitive.
Leave for 20 minutes.
Regret lashing out and for the comments made.
Retract comments and apologise (several times).
Contact the mods and ask them to remove the thread to avoid any further hurt to relatives of the deceased and anyone else effected by issues in the story.
Go to bed and refrigerate for 48 hours.
Return and apologise again.
Feeds 1. Best served cold.
I've only just returned to the forum. I thought it was necessary to take a break for a few days. I think I've spent too long here reading all the doom and gloom over recent weeks and this, combined with other stuff which I won't go into here, has just got me very down.
I wasn't feeling my usual self when I made the comment. I wanted to lash out and unfortunately that was one of the first articles I read. What I wrote was insensitive, rude, unjustified and unfounded. I retracted it and apologised. I'm not sure what more I can do.
I'd also like to say sorry to baby_boomer and Lotus-eater because I was very rude to them too and it simply wasn't called for. I'm very sorry both and I hope you can accept my apology.
I'm going to take a break from the forum for a while. I think it'll do me some good to concentrate on the good things in life rather than preoccupy myself here each day in things I can do nothing about.
It's been fun chatting with you all over the last few months. I'll post again when I feel like I'm back to my old self.
Take care,

On a question of moderation.
I currently moderate several sites, one of which I own. If something like the subject matter had been posted on one of my sites and without it being edited shortly after, it would have been taken down, not due to legalities but because of it's sensitive nature.
The OP did change his original post so that it was not as brusque as it was originally and the discussion did turn, into what was developing into a decent discussion but (and this is the big but) if people find offence, if the owner of the site find offence or if the moderators of the site find offence....no matter what people say about freedom of speech, the threads will be taken down.
Freedom of speech is a prickly matter...how far do you let it go? Do you have a complete free for all? Would you actually say as much to the face of the person if in real life and not (sort of) hidden by an anonymous internet name?
Most would not, or if they did, would find themselves with a bloody nose more times than they would want.
IP's are logged on the majority of forums, I use them for when people are being ever so slightly naughty (well a bit more than that really) on my site.
For the record, I did not report the thread even if I found the original post distasteful and posted as such. I accepted the retraction and amendment of the OP's post and was then joining in the discussion. We made it! All three boys have graduated, it's been hard work but it shows there is a possibility of a chance of normal (ish) life after a diagnosis (or two) of ASD. It's not been the easiest route but I am so glad I ignored everything and everyone and did my own therapies with them.
Eldests' EDS diagnosis 4.5.10, mine 13.1.11 eekk - now having fun and games as a wheelchair user.0 -
Thanks sue.
If you wiki freedom of speech you get.
Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak freely without censorship or limitation. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes used to denote not only freedom of verbal speech but any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. Freedom of speech and freedom of expression is closely related to, yet distinct from, the concept of freedom of conscience and freedom of thought. In practice, the right to freedom of speech is not absolute in any country and the right is commonly subject to limitations, such as on "hate speech". This is because exercising freedom of speech always takes place within a context of competing values.
Thanks DB for your post, that was gracious. :T (Sorry, you do sound depressed old chap get yourself to the docs or have a chat with somone.)
But why some people are still defending the coments after the OP as retracted them and appologised I may never understand.
If the OP felt it was wrong why can they not see the same?0 -
hope you feel more cheerful soon, that was a great post DB....much enquiry having been made concerning a gentleman, who had quitted a company where Johnson was, and no information being obtained; at last Johnson observed, that 'he did not care to speak ill of any man behind his back, but he believed the gentleman was an attorney'.0

all the best Dudley Boy - forget about about your post and this forum.

How am I, the irony is you are trying to stop peoples freedom of speech.

Rewind:
Realy: I can post forever if you want but I will not stop saying the thread was wrong, because it was.
Incisor: Well, you are confusing opinion and fact again, but give us a link and I'll take another view if you think that would help me change my mind.
In response I get the above. Now, Realy, I was being ironic, asking for a link to the thread you had canned to see if another read would change my mind, and I get a link to some irrelevant stuff about Princess Diana. If that did not cause me to think that you were barmy, you are now accusing me of suppressing free speech for objecting to a thread being taken down. Totally barmy. More clearly than ever, I can see that the thread was taken down to appease the unhinged. After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
Ok I was wicked to Globalds. Sorry Globalds. You didn't deserve that one bit.0

Do not call DB that, he is clearly having some problems, at least he was brave enough to ask for the thread to be taken down.
As for the link you did not read it then as it was not just about that.
Get over it wiki "Free Speech".
Or look above before pointing me out as the fall guy.0
