  • I agree with Browntoa, uninstall and go with the older version although my main problem is a teenager who installs anything that MSN throws at her icon8.gif

Both me and my sons have had problems accessing our MSN accounts on all three of my machines for well over 12 mths now, similar message to Martin's, so we gave up in the end

Would be interested to know if there's any sort of fix though as I'd quite like to use it again.

had another thought if that does not work, there is also (on Xp) a program called "Windows Messenger" that works with windows remote assist and used to cause problems on my PC so I renamed the file in the end (it used to log me out all the time form MSN)

it's under "Program Files" then "Messenger" (the other one is in the MSN Folder) and I just renamed it from Msmsgs to msmsgs2 to stop it coming up

could be that causing the conflict ??

the other thing i can think of is a registry problem, you can download Ace utilities from www.acelogix.com(a Free , fully working 30 day trial ) and run the clean registry option and let if fix anything it finds. You may need to run it a couple of times to fix everything

I've never had a problem logging in with Trillian or MSN 7.0

I think it does sound like a problem with the recent version

That's a new suggestion to me, but certainly sounds plausible as I'm running XP on all PC's so will test it out later this week and get back to you :)

have you tried emailing the Messenger service and asking them?We couldn't access the online games so emailed. Back came a very detailed email from a chap called Eugene with a complete explanation and the solution....bless Eugene.
Norton was the problem...but all sorted now

You can disable Windows Messenger if you have Adaware... look at your settings and there is a plug in to do this (can't tell you exactly as I haven't got it at the moment, there's also another way to disable it which I don't know either.;) )
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
