Porridge For Breakfast - Flling or Not?

oh yes 10past6 but more than being cheaper, it contains what I want. I don`t want cheap wholewheat flakes or bran and to be stuffed full of nasties
I use whatever I have to hand and typically
oats (organic)
quinoa and or millet flakes (if I have them in)
dried berries
pumpkin and sunflower seeds
raisins
nuts
chopped apricots and or a few chopped dates
a little coconut
to make a nice basic and cheap muesli use cheap oats, chopped dates, a few chopped nuts and sunflower seeds. Add or subtract according to what you can afford and like0 -
I find porrige doesn't fill me up . Also find it makes me wee more than normal
which can be a problem depending what I am doing!
I started having muslie with yoghurt when I was doing SW, this is more filling and very tasty. I have recently switched from the expensive fat free yoghurts to value yoghurts and find they are perfectly acceptable for a fraction of the cost. Haven't looked up SW points as have 'gone off the rails' there.
When I am getting up well before six for an early start at work all I can face is Marmite toast though, I still end up hungry mid morning but as there's no time to eat at work I just have to muddle on(another reason I have 'failed' at SW)

Thing is, I work a shift pattern, so meals times are never regular, I want a breakfast to prevent me snacking midday, it's not helping with my weight
Since I've been dieting I eat hell of a lot more than I used to. I take at least 4 different pieces of fruit into work and snack on that.
Bananas are my fave, quick and easy to eat with a cuppa. Could you not bring fruit for a midday snack? You'd get 1 of your 5 a day too
I found that apart from porridge I am almost always hungry mid morning when I eat breakfast.
I'm always hungry earlier if I eat breakfast, it's because it kick-starts your motabalism (sp?) and your body needs fuel earlier as it's started working earlier.
If you're trying to lose weight never skip breakfast, if you can't face a meal early in the morn have a smoothie, a yogurt or a piece of fruit.Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!!

I find porridge is the only breakfast that doesn't leave me hungry mid morning.
I don't like it sloppy as it makes me gag.
I make it with semi-skimmed milk & add saltanas, pumkin seeds, sunflower seedsFashion on a ration 2025 0/66 coupons spent

I think this is a very individual thing - some people can't get by on three meals a day, with nothing in between. Or even two meals - by leaving out breakfast. I have always had to have 3 meals and 3 snacks a day - I am a grazer
I'm only a size 10/12 so I obviously don't eat loads at each 'food' time. So I may have porridge (made with half milk, half water) for breakfast, then a banana or pear mid-morning, a sandwich and yoghurt and fruit for lunch, more fruit (or something naughty like a cake) mid afternoon, then dinner, then more fruit or yoghurt mid evening. There is no way I could 'last' from breakfast until lunch - even if I have a cooked breakfast (which is rare!).

OMG
I eat porridge everyday for breakfast, about 75g of raw oats a bit of water then microwave. Absolutely love it.
Anyway to make it more filling add some whole milk as the fats will make you feel satisfied. Or buy some wheatgerm and add it to the porridge it is basically 100% fibre.
I also try to eat 4-5 times a day
You can make a good muesli by mixing some oats with mixed dried fruit some wheatgerm and nuts, if you can afford, wacking the mixture in the oven so that that the oats get semi-roasted. And Bob's your uncle.Buy for value not cost.

Just have to say that I had porridge this morning reading this thread. Yes, I actually stopped reading, went and made some porridge, then came back to the computer to finish reading. oooooooh the power of the written word, conjuring up the lovely image of porridge. I made mine half pinhead otmeal, half oats, pinch salt, half water, half milk, sultanas and then a few pumpkin seeds and some linseed sprinkled on top. Yum it was fab0

I always make porridge with oatmeal that's been soaked overnight. I use water and a wee bit of salt and find that it does fill me and DH up. We had it Saturday and Sunday and felt full till lunchtime0

Well my porridge certainly fills me up right through until lunch time.
Ingredients: (single portion)- 20g porridge oats
- 20g sultanas
- 320g milk (semi skimmed) approx half pint
Microwave at 800 for 6 mins then at 180 for 11 minsThis results in a creamy porridge that is rather yummy. You may need to adjust the settings and timings to suit your own microwave and taste.Allow to cool then devour with gusto:Dregards...0
