Hello peeps :hello:
It’s been mentioned on here several times about having porridge for breakfast, so, for the last 4 weeks I’ve changed from cornflakes to porridge everyday for breakfast, thing is, I don’t find it filling as I’m usually hungry again mid morning, is there some kind of trick to it?

Funny, I found that with porridge too. I used to love it (say used to as I'm gluten intolerant now) but come mid morning I was hungry again!
I found museli filled me up a lot more than porridge and kept me going0 -
I too gave up on porridge, I think it's a salesman's (government) myth.
Never hungry before lunch these days, I have a hard boiled egg and a small packet of pork scratchings or a sausage.
Boil 5 eggs on a sunday, 1 for each weekday brekkie! Easily transportable if necessary, always tasty and no carbs! (but that's just my ting) Never feel hungry on my low carb eating plan. Get loadsa vits from all the fresh veg (lunch n dinner) and never feel bloated or suddenly 'low' in vitality.
I reckon the eggs n sausage would fill anybody up regardless of what they chose to eat for the rest of the day though too.
Give it a go, tasty sausage or scratchins mean there's no need for condiments so easy to do wherever!
FX
Edit: Muesli is more long lasting than porridge in the not hungry dept as there are nuts n seeds there and fruit. Much better than just some boring old (slightly unsatisfying) oats0 -
And I thought it was just my digestive system out of order! I am so glad I am not alone in finding porridge seems to make me more hungry not less. I am going back to my boiled egg or toast in the mornings.Birthdays are good for you.... the more you have - the longer you live. :j0

Fern Merkin, I was doing that, but my cholesterol went up to 6.3
Just have one or two eggs a week?
Porridge is good, but no breakfast in a bowl - cornflakes, porridge etc is supposed to last till lunchtime on it's own (I have double helping of porridge else I'm hungry in less than an hour)
Have toast aswell, or microwave a tomato and have on toast too, or a banana.
A bowl of cereals on it's own is only any good for small children.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I discussed this with my doctor and although I can't quote you figures he was more than happy with my cholesterol rating
Think that's to do with my not having any saturated fats from processed foods too. Or biscuits
High cholesterol isn't to do with eggs alone. They're quite healthy. But I take your point which was why I mentioned that I was Low carbing. That doesn't mean just not eating bread as Im sure you are aware.
Taken within a balanced diet, low carbing or not, 1 egg a day, 5 out of seven isn't what's going to kill you.
What was the rest of your diet like? Not confrontational, as I say doc n me are eye to eye on this, nothing to prove. Was it JUST the eggs You had to change?

Fern Merkin, the nurse I saw at the surgery gave me very little advice, she just said drink those little bottles of cholesterol-lowering drinks. They are like tiny milk shakes?
I don't know, we eat healthily mostly, never have takeaways or anything like that.
I wish I knew what to do? I do eat porridge or muesli every day, whether for breakfast or supper if I'm up late.
I do have a stressful job though.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

If your cholesterol was high I would insist on being given a nutritional guide sheet, they must have them in the area of reducing cholesterol as it's a growing problem amongst the population as it stands. And after following their guidelines get checked out again.
Things like biscuits and other premade items we buy (often flour based) often have complicated fats in them. These help the shelf life and to maintain the texture of foods once we have opened the packet. Our bodies aren't really designed to cope with this.
Not evangelical in the slightest and in no way trying to change the way anybody else lives their life.
I have found that by leaving out anything with wheat in it gives me a better time physically. Mainly I think this is not to do with the wheat per se but that often biscuits, cakes, bread, lots of other stuff, has not only wheat but so much preservative. Not always in 'preservative' form but in the form of preserving fats. Which raise bad cholesterol but mean our walnut cake isnt all dried out 4 days in.
If you take a whole approach, it's not easy with all we have pushed at us, if you know what's going into your food you have control over what's going into you your body.
My mum developed an intolerance to white bread in her forties, she can still eat other breads. I got the same effect abt 35, I get it with all comercially made bread. I think we've all been over processed and I do not rely on Government guidelines.
However, By knowing what I'm eating - it's not that difficult when you get used to it - I do not have the damaging stuff in me v often. Except, of course, chocolate fudge cake, but no ones perfect0 -
That's the crazy thing - I don't eat biscuits or cake, I use a breadmaker for my wholemeal or granary, I eat about half a loaf a week.
Don't eat sausage or burgers or anything like either.
Tonight we had chicken and rice, I ate a small amount.
Oh doh! Just realised, my hypothyroid. One of the symptoms I think is raised cholesterol, could that be it, even though I use Thyroxin?I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.
