I'm sure I remember KimYeovil being quite snappy with some poor young thing who was confused with something. His/her posts have the tone of someone older but he/she is probably nothing of the kind! As for Kim being a 'younger' name, I've worked with two Kims who must be in their 60s now. Kimberley was a popular name for babies in the 80s though.

  • right.... after turning off the 2 freezers and the fridge and finally getting the timer to work on the immersion heater !!
from 6pm sunday -9 am monday we have used......

So, almost 14 units overnight - we use less than that in an average 24 hour period so still seems high. I'm assuming you used the storage heaters last night and the four night units just for them?

    Question for the brainy ones.
I have no experience of Economy 7, but if you have 2 meters, then should one meter register what's used the 'ON' hours of economy 7 and the other register during the off/daytime hours.
Only, in 15 hours, Bojangles has used 13.71 units and the majority of these were at the more expensive day rate.
From Bojangles list of what's switched on, several of these things will have been on constantly and some just during the day rate hours....something is still devouring the electric.

Or, does the Economy 7 meter thing work differently with a pre-payment meter

    we dont have storage heaters
we came back from shopping with timer switchs etc at around 5pm sunday and as soon as we checked what 2 freezers and 1 fridge used we turned them off, so you could say at the latest 6pm..
so from 6pm we watched tv, had pc on, shawn had bath, paul ironed, we sat in darkness again, immersion was on at 10pm till midnight, we had sandwiches for tea, i had shower (its not electric),paul had shower, went to bed
overnight- economy 7 starts at 12pm till 7am
immersion came on at 6am -7am,chest freezer on (not big one), fridge, fish tank (this uses 4 watts),landing light 20 watts pygamy bulb..........
    and thats it
we have no heating (got no oil) so that not using it

While we wait for the brainy ones ... that's what Economy 7 means to be but previous poster has said that sometimes it only applies to the storage heaters. Everything else runs on the expensive meter. I hadn't heard of this but it explains how two meters can be going up at the same time.

OK, I read my meter at 9.30 yesterday, and again just now. I have used 14 units.
In that time we had 2 laptops on all day and at least 1 portable TV & digibox.
    1 chest freezer.
    1 small fridge & 1 small freezer.
My remoska was on for 1 1/2 hours (650w) :D
I ironed and watched TV 4 hours
Mr Twit had the other TV on for 6 hours or so.

My water is heated by the combi boiler and shower is not electric.

When the immersion had been on for 2 hours, was the water really hot. You may find that you can decrease the length of time it's on for.
Also, is the tank really well insulated?

i suppose i could cut it down to 1 hour ...10 till 11,cos it takes about 20 mins to heat and we want 2 showers out of it, tank is really wrapped up and has double quilt on it as well ---warmer than us !!!!
but by cutting it down to 1 hr, surely im not gonna save a vast amount ?
just compared a new bill i got today with a mate , we did our workings out and we have roughly the same (she has electric shower) and teenagers at home ---i dont
    she used....
    22 august-18 september....77 day and 418 nights units
    and i used ..
    22 august-24 september...696 day and138 night units :confused::confused::confused:
i think eon dont like me !!!

Why are you heating water outside of your seven cheap rate hours?

If it's a 3kW element, having it on for two hours would use six units and for one hour would use three units - half the cost.
