they have bones in and skin on, can i use them for the above recepie or do i need to skin them first? sorry but ive only really used chicken breasts before but know the thights have a better flavour in dishes like this and are sooooo much cheaper

You've two choices really - skin them or brown the skin off first =)

I have an ancient paperback copy but only use a few recipes from it.

Does anyone know if the new edition will just be a reprint of the old one or will it contain new recipes like "How to Cheat at Cooking"?

I have a copy on my shelves I've had almost all our married life (38 years!)
Can't imagine anyone wanting it - it's been very well used and the pages are very discoloured.....no didn't think anyone would pay for that!

Nope it's the truth!! although one was down to the bargain price of 65 pounds this morning. They seem to be flying off the shelves everywhere (but obviously not Amazon!).

Thanks everyone for the help and advice, methinks I will wait a while and buy a brand new shiney unstained copy when the new one is published (no, no, no, must check the recipes on Delia's web site first!!) and a trail round the charity shops is sooooo tempting!!

Just checked Amazon...the new version is out the end of October priced at £11.87 ..hopefully will be more up to date as first one was out about 30 years ago !

Nope, it is exactly the same text as the original. The styling has been poshed up and there are colour photos at the beginning of the chapters but they are of random foods and not of the recipes. I was quite looking forward to seeing photos of the finished dishes but not one at all:rolleyes:

The only thing that is different is a half page intro saying that we should substitute groundnut oil where the recipes call for saved drippings or lard which doesn't seem very frugal to me -I always keep mine and use them in another dish, and so did my Gran and she's 100 so :p Delia!

By the way, I don't think the recipes need updating, they are perfectly good and indeed frugal as they don't contain any 'flavour of the month ingredients'.

Also the profits from the book are going to Cafod as they did when the original paperback was reprinted a few years ago.

I bought a paperback copy a couple of months ago. I googled the title and bought it from some obscure company for £3.50!

Actually, the chances are that the people on Amazon don't actually have a copy. Some people put a book on at a high price, figuring that if someone offers them that, they will find one *somewhere* for them cheaper than that, and still make a profit.

I've just borrowed the book from my local library. Other than the spicy chicken, any other 'must try' recipes that I should copy berore returning it?
