i know this sounds silly is the wireless access point enabled on the router if it is have you tried using windows zero configuration to connect wirelessly as this sometimes works better than the wireless adapter software0

My sympathies go to you as this caused me months of trouble.
In the end, with help, I worked out that the internal wireless card in my laptop was not working.
This can be found out by using a program that looks for aps and wireless hotspots. Can't remember the name but you might find it if you do a google search.
I bought a Netgear USB wireless adaptor and stuck that in and within minutes was connected.
If you have a friend that has one or the slot PCI type would could give that a go.
I got mine from Ebay for less than £10.
Hope that helpsIts better to be late in this life than early in the next one.
