    are you using belkin?

I am :( and although the study computer is fine :) I can't get it to work upstairs. Could it be that the signal isn't strong enough and how can I test that?

i know this sounds silly is the wireless access point enabled on the router if it is have you tried using windows zero configuration to connect wirelessly as this sometimes works better than the wireless adapter software

    Hello

My sympathies go to you as this caused me months of trouble.

In the end, with help, I worked out that the internal wireless card in my laptop was not working.

This can be found out by using a program that looks for aps and wireless hotspots. Can't remember the name but you might find it if you do a google search.

I bought a Netgear USB wireless adaptor and stuck that in and within minutes was connected.

If you have a friend that has one or the slot PCI type would could give that a go.

I got mine from Ebay for less than £10.

    Hope that helps

Sometimes odd problems can be caused by wireless routers using the same channel - so try using a different channel for wireless............
This was really useful for me as my wireless connection has been dropping for long periods of time and all the settings seemed to be in place. There was one other wireless connection showing but I didn't think of there being hidden ones too. I changed the channel setting and it connected immediately.

albertross - Your information is very useful too.
    Torgwen.......... :) ...........
  • a quick question please-how do you change channels?
    thank you
