Wireless connection gone again

Oh My.

My Wireless network connection has yet again dissapeared. It works for a while and then for no apparent reason dissapears.

I have tried all of the things I tried in the previous times to get it back but no this time it seams to have gone for good.

No only that but when I connect my laptop to the netgear by ethernet cable it sees it but will not do anything. Will not connect to internet or anything.

I have tried system restore, tried resetting the settings, tried fixing it from the other end, disabled firwalls etc, virus scans etc.

Anybody got any other ideas as this has been since 10th November and I am now losing my mind. _pale_ :wall:  and I want to be festive and :j  :T _party_

HEeeeeLlllllPppp PLease

Have you tired restarting your router? Maybe worth checking to make sure you have the most up-to-date firmware for your router? Also this months PC Pro has a step by step guide to setting up networks.

  • Thanks

I have tried restarting the router and restoring working settings. Will look into upgrading the firmware to see if that helps.

    sounds a bit like a security issue then, maybe worth checking;
    firewall setting (temporarily turning off)
    mac filtering
DHCP allocation (try renewing DHCP request if in use)

  • I have tried disabling firewalls etc.

It is a netgear adsl wireless router.

I have checked the firmware and it already has the latest firmware.

  • Sometimes odd problems can be caused by wireless routers using the same channel - so try using a different channel for wireless.

I agree its not obvious that this is the problem, especially when you are having problems with a wired connection, but sometimes if a wireless device is experiencing interference from another wireless access point - you get odd things happening.

Also it may not be obvious that you are getting interference - since not everyone broadcasts their wireless access SSID - so not seeing someone else's network - doesn't mean there isn't one there.

    Hope that makes sense.

When the wireless connection is working, what signal strength are you getting?

The fact that you cannot get the wired connection working sounds rather suspicious, since if anything works, that ought to...

Which Netgear? The DG834G (version 2) or DG834GT by any chance?

Also what adapter are you running with the router? Is it a usb one, and if so which model?

The Netgears are known to be problematic, I've suffered the same problems as you.

I have not tried changing the channel so I will try that and report back.

The Netgear is a DG834G (version 2). I have it attatched to the pc via a ethernet cable and to the Laptop via the wireless method (when it works)

Will try the ipconfig /all when I get home. Sounds interesting.

When I attach the Laptop via ethernet the port light does indeed light up and the laptop tells me it is connected but it won't do anything else ie connect to the internet.

I have tried changing the channels and that didn't work.

The router arial is firmly screwed in and upright.
