Part of the Furniture 500 Posts I've been Money Tipped!
He was made redundant 4.5 yrs ago and we so need him to get this on so many levels.

I know this is off topic but my husband managed to get 3 jobs over the age of 60.

He was a cabinet maker by trade but the furniture firms have all gone abroad now where labour is cheap.

The first 2 jobs he got were through the job centre. They were quite helpful. The first one was furniture related. That company wasn't doing very well so he moved on. The next post again thru the job centre was soil testing on building sites, but they moved up north after a year so he had to look again.
He is now ever nearer to 65. I typed letters on his behalf to every large store in the area and Tesco offered him a post and he has been there ever since and will retire this Christmas.

I am not saying this to rub it in by the way, but to point out really that writting and offering your services can sometimes work.

Also not being pickey about what you do and being prepared to take a drop in salary.

Morning everyone, had a great shopping day yesterday in the Chinese Supermarket, got loads of chicken breasts and eggs and spices at a much cheaper price than Tesco, so shall be trying to make use of them in my cooking!

    Todays eating plan is:

OK - my eating plan for today is:

Breakfast - I have had beans on toasts (free+heb) and a banana

Lunch - I will probably take some fruit with me as I will be out, but I have made soup this morning so when I get back I will be able to quickly heat it up and eat. I will have a couple of alpen lites in my bag in case I get shaky. So that will be (free + heb if I eat the alpen lites)

Dinner - Chicken curry with rice and vegetables made with that Tiny Deol sauce - its only 6 syns for the whole jar and it will be used for 4 of us so only 1.5 for my share!. I will have this as a green meal so lots of rice and a heb portion of chicken unless I have had to eat the alpen lites at lunch time, in which case I will syn the chicken or the alpen lites, which ever is lower)
Will have my normal fruit and yogurt for the evening snack with syned scan bran (2.5 syns) May also have a glass of red wine tonight so that will be another 5 syns making a total of 9 syns. My consultant tells me off for not eating enough syns so I am making an effort to have more:D.

    What do you guys think?

    Love
    Marion

I must be missing something - what are these syns folks are talking about?
I have lost my weight by changing to skimmed milk (takes about 2 weeks to get use to) , not eating biscuits - occasionaly a rich tea if desperate - no confectionery - but maybe a piece of Prestat plain or milk Choixi bar if I fancy.

Alpen Lite bars for mid morning snack (what a godsend they are)
Breakfast generally shreddies or Fruit & fibre
Lunch - sandwich - wholemeal nimbles, flora lite, ham, turkey or chicken - cucumber and tomato - weekends I like beans on toast lovely and filling
    1 or 2 yogurts a day
Evening meals vary from Hunter chicken, pasta & veg - fish, rice & veg - use spices to flavour - main thing I have learned -eat veg first, then meat and then rice or pasta usually find too full to finish. Just really low fat meals with small amount of carbs.
Have tried to keep my food relatively normal so I don't feel too deprived or on a 'diet', gave up drinking as well . Though miss the biscuits.

Have to say it is a lot easier as there are just the two of us and OH is not home for dinner every day.Must be really hard if you have kids to feed as well.

Flipside being OH drinking twice as much!! Though he is getting very inventive with the evening meals.

Tried couscous the other week - texture and looks too much like sand for me so back to pasta and rice.

More healthy than my vodka & walnut whip diet in 1975!:rotfl:

Anybody recommend any cookbooks with low fat eating or are they all too wierd like the GL diet book?

London, like PCL says, Syns are a Slimming World thing - not unlike Weight Watchers Points.

The current interview is for barely above minimum wage, so he is certainly not proud. I'm certainly not short of ideas and have covered all the above, but the 'we need him to get this on so many levels' covers complexities I don't feel comfortable sharing as it is his business to tell, not mine IYSWIM. I appreciate your kind intent and think you've both done very well. You weren't rubbing it in at all, and I think you are good example to many.

    Some good losses coming in.
    Go seren:D
We sucombed to fish & chips last night in an essential 'cheer ourselves up' campaign. We were going to have HM shepherds pie, but when I looked in the freezer, it wasn't there (reminicent of Fawlty Towers scene with Basil looking for the duck i the plate of rice:D )

I understand where you are coming from ajax, with the don't congratulate me, but considering you were a little nervous of going, you have made a good start and clearly were cutting back enough!
well done London 05: silver linings and all that! & louby.

Woo hoo to all the losers, and I am in that happy band again this week for some strange reason I have lost another 6.5 pounds :eek::eek:, not 100% sure how it happened but I am not complaining LOL.

On the job front Dr Dragon is applying for any job with a salary that along with my DLA and IB means we can pay the bills on the house and car, anything else being a bonus (and yes to a certain extent we are counting food as a bonus item )
Do not meddle in the affairs of Dragons, for thou art crunchy and good with catsup :D

  • Dragon, you get enough 'random gains' due to drugs so you REALLY deserve this loss:T .

EDIT: By drugs I do mean'prescibed medicines!

......I'd like to point out for all newbies that by 'drugs', Bb actually means 'prescribed medicines' :D
