It would help if they weren't completely incompetent at account opening.

I applied online before the end of October, and got the account opening information - but no proper account details - pretty soon. But then they took until 21 November to clear my opening £1 cheque, and STILL today (4 working days before the Clubcard deadline) haven't given me the account details so I cannot credit any funds.

I phoned today to see why the heck they were faffing about. On their website there is some flannel which obviously suggests they have a backlog, but still insists on the 30 November Clubcard deadline.

On the phone "we are busy" message it says the same thing - and reiterates the stupid 30 November deadline.

It isn't until you've wasted 10 minutes on hold that they tell you that actually they are extending the deadline "on a case by case basis" (whatever the heck that means, given that they didn't take any details from me and hence can't prove who phoned them and who didn't) so you will still get your Clubcard points.

    Muppets!

I bet that, when the account details eventually arrive, they either won't mention the 30 November deadline and Clubcard points at all, or they will refer to the 30 November deadline even though the literature arrives later than 30 November!

I am in the same boat and phoned tesco finance and they told me that they are making allowances for late application processing by tesco. But I don't have in writing etc . . . but took the name of the phone banker . . so will have some proof that I called. They have adviced me to transfer the funds as soon as I get the sort code and a/c details in post.

    Recent Clubcard Points Offer

For those that applied for a Tesco Savings Account between 18th September and 12th November 2008.
Please note: As long as we have received your application by the 12th November and you have the required balance in your account on the 30th November you will be awarded the Clubcard Points.

I dont know for sure but i think you will find they are not bankers like A+L . They are just call centre workers that are working for another firm .The A+L ones told me they having nothing to do with the bank this is why its a waist of time trying to get them to do anything. I am still waiting for Tesco to comfirm my signature after 5 weeks big con if you ask me.

It really does go from bad to worse.

Today the bank details arrived for Tesco - posted on a rickshaw, by the speed of delivery from the supposed posting date.

So I should be able to log in and do transactions, right? NO! This is Tesco Finance, don't forget.

I now have to register for online banking - strange that I haven't already done that when I opened the account - and PRINT OFF A SIGNATURE SLIP - despite having signed the application form - and then POST it to them.

    They haven't got a clue.

And I can't transfer the money to them from my Barclays current account because that has an online banking transaction limit of £10k per day. And when I try to do £5k for me and £5k for the Mrs, it blocks the second transaction because they add up to "more" than £10k. Not on my calculator, they don't.

And then I could do it on the phone with Barclays, but I never use phone banking so don't know my passcode. And Barclays have second tier passwords if you don't know your passcode - but won't let you authorise a third party payment with them. So that's another waste of time.

Back in the good old days when my current account and savings accounts were all with A&L, I never had all this pain. :(

The Ts & Cs might say that, but they've told me on the phone that "on a case by case basis" the deadline will be extended.

For my wife's £50k the money got there on time because it was sent by CHAPS on Thursday; for my £5k the money will not get there until Monday because it was sent by BACS on Thursday. I shall trust them to apply the rules the way they've described them to me, not the way they are written.

I can't get either amount of money out of the account anyway, pending their inefficient enabling of my internet access. Fortunately for the £50k I am happy enough for it to sit in there at 6%. For my own £5k I would rather have it back as I'm a taxpayer and the money shouldn't be in my name at all.

they told me they would give the points as the delay has been because of them. my account got opened on thursday so there was no way I could have transferred except by CHAPS(£20 cost) so called and asked them they said as long as the money reaches them in a reasonable time from the account openeing they are going to honour the points.

My OH had her account opened on wednesday but is yet to receive her details which will come by post and they do not tell the sort code and account number on phone so she will need to wait until the post arrives before she can transfer money!!.
