As I ponder over how the clue "spreads" gives rise to the answer "straws"

'Straw' is an archaic term meaning to spread by scattering e.g. "strew his toys across the floor".

    1. Take your PC/laptop with you!!!!!

    2. Borrow somebody else's PC while you are there

    3. Internet cafe (not very moneysaving)

    4. Ask someone you REALLY trust to log onto Pigsback and do it for you.
    Thanks, Marigold.

    1. Haven't got a laptop. PC a bit bulky. Also my ISP is a French one. (See location).

    2. I may be able to do this every now and again, but not every day. Better than nothing, and, I think, my only solution!

    3. Few and far between in Yorks, Lancs and deepest Worcestershire, unless you traipse into the city centres. (At Christmas? No thanks!!)

    4. Hmm. A possibility. Bit of an imposition, though, to ask someone to keep on top of PB, with or without this thread to help.Edit: Of course, this would be against PB's Ts & Cs, and would therefore put the accounts of both self and "surrogate" in jeopardy.

And can you imagine how many posts here I'll have to catch up with on my return??!!

    Thanks for your sensible suggestions!

Couldn't spread be sprawl rather than straws?
That makes an awful lot more sense!! But the applet doesn't tell you that you've completed the crossword until you have all letters "correct", i.e. as entered by the deviser of the crossword.

You have strewn your wisdom across the internet, and I think you must be right! But the difficulty of this clue is way out of line with that normally associated with a crossword of this nature, where, for instance the answer "fifteen" is achieved through the clue "XV", and where the clue for "India" is "Second most populous nation". I would have expected something more along the lines of: "Tubes used for sucking drinks".

How many of PB's members are into archaic English?!

As I say, I think you are probably right, but the clue is incongruous.

It's pretty much straight away after the friend redeems points.

Well, I talked with my friend and she said she ordered a reward from PB, but I haven't got my points yet. Should I wait or should I send an email to PB and ask about it?... Any suggestions?

I personally would wait a little while. Maybe it will take a couple of days.

How long is it since you have been in the UK???? You will find that most libraries offer internet access, even the tiniest branch libraries.
