    • Supermarket: NETTO
    • My top things to buy are
    • :White Grenache [Rose wine]
  • Heinz
    Asda

    51% Beans
    33% Tomatoes
    Water
    Sugar
    Modified Cornflour
    Spirit Vinegar
    Spice extracts
    Herb extract

    4.9% protein
    12.9% carbohydrate
    (5.0% sugars)
    3.8% fibre
    0.8% salt

    0.415 Kg net Can weight

1.20 GBP per kilo (multi pack)

    Slightly “tart” (probably the vinegar)

    Campolargo
    Lidl

    49% Beans
    27% Tomatoes
    Water
    Sugar
Modified Maize Starch (ie same thing)
    Salt
    Onion Powder
    Paprika
    Flavouring.

    4.7% protein
    10.0% carbohydrate
    (5.6% sugars)
    3.5% fibre
    1.0% salt

    0.420 Kg net Can weight

    0.70 GBP per kilo

Slightly sweet and redder (extra sugar and paprika)

Don’t think I could tell the difference if served as beans on toast at different meals.

In fairness to Asda, their smart price beans are 6x pence per kilo, however last time I bought any I found them watery in comparison with the above..

    01july update. Lidl special offer:

    Branston
    Lidl

    52% Beans
    36% Tomatoes
    Water
    Sugar
Modified Maize Starch (ie same thing)
    Salt
    Paprika
    White Pepper
    Flavouring.
    Spices

    4.8% protein
    16.1% carbohydrate
    (5.9% sugars)
    5.5% fibre
    0.8% salt

    0.420 Kg net Can weight

    0.70 GBP per kilo

On the face of it more “food” in the tin and so best value of the three.
    [FONT=&quot]Have not tasted it yet

I see Aldi are selling "Corale" baked beans at 0.69 GBP per Kilo.
I wonder what they taste like?

Any idea if Lidl sells a reduced salt & sugar versions of tinned goods, baked beans in particular? It's the only store around here as Aldi, Costco etc are all 70+miles from us :o Thankfully Sainsbugs value fruit is now in juice so things are looking up but it is so annoying when do-gooders say things about putting tax on high sugar/fat foods when they should really be concentrating on making the healthier alternatives cheaper

    Sugar & Salt

    3.9% & 0.7% Tesco
    5.9% & 0.8% Branson
    1.5% & 1.0% Lidl "Campolargo"

Tesco gives the percentage of daily guideline per serving:
9% & 23% So it looks like you do have a valid point on the salt front.
  • interesting !! .. post 689 i commented on the new Aldi 125gm dark chocolate mint variety ( and a chilli variety) at 99p being superb quality & great value at 99p

    The pack is actually 5 x 25gm individually wrapped bars . .....

Today .. went to Netto as they were advertising a one off buy on Bendicks 72% dark choc (plain .. not flavours ) 125gm ..... at £1 a bar .

Identical 5 x125gm packaging to the Aldi one ... definitely out of the same factory .. same coding etc .

Bendicks obviously real quality producer .

    Superb quality + great price.

From LIDL I like the lasagne, and the glenview bacon.

Hi From Lidl i go in especially for the milk, bacon, pasta, mince, jumbo fries, wedges apple & orange juice these are the cheapest for these items near me.
I don't like the bags of Granny Smiths apples after a couple of days the apples always develop bruises! i have kept trying them thinking it may be the odd bad bag but it keeps happening (not good with a fussy 4yr old who checks each apple for bruises before he eats them them will just give up!) nearly always end up having to make a apple crumble instead out of them(which makes hubby happy) but not son who wants them to eat!.Won't buy them anymore.
