  • lidl,
today bought red cabbage at 29p a kg and butternut squash at 98p a kg.

    both good :j
    nov grocery challenge, £.227.69/300, 9/25 nsd: , 7 Cmo, 10 egm.
Me, 10 yo dd, and the dog. all food and drinks, in and out, plus household shopping.
  • Bockwurst from Lidl or Aldi - far better and cheaper than the big supermarkets' version, also much better meat content compared to the big supermarkets' premium sausages. Cut crosses on the outside curve for the authentic appearance, serve in fresh baked crusty rolls from Lidl freezer section, some pepper (29p compared to over £1) and a pinch of paprika. Yummy yummy yummy

Neuberg sausages from Lidl - better than Richmonds chipolatas - next to no fat, all meat. Yummy.

German ham. Cheaper than big guys. And yummy, less salt, less water/gunk, better texture.

    Lidl parmesan. Yummy yummy yummy

Lidl living salad. Can grow on for a good couple of months.

Herring in piquante tomato sauce. Brilliant mashed on toast and cheaper than supermarkets' mackerel.

Strudel. Frozen. Yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum yum. And about a £1 cheaper than anywhere else.

Aldi frozen pasta bags. Rocket & mushroom, one with gorgonzola. DD2 hates mushrooms but loves this.

Aldi Alsaçe vegetable pizza thingy. lovely.

At Lidl's I love Northwoods luxury chocolate caramel shortbread. It's very naughty but delicious as a once a week treat. Best millionaires shortbread I've had!

Bixies swiss style Muesli is great. I have sugar free one in blue box.

    Liquorice Allsorts

Butter Beans tinned are the best I've had

Also their packets of flavoured rice. I have the mushroom and veg which is really nice and quick to cook.

Veg I find is cheap but does not always last very long

    Bacon and gammon is good.

Frozen seafood pizza is delicious too.
  • Lidl's wine gums were 48p for a large bag (not sure if they still are but normal price is only a little more), they are so tasty, the best we've had. Also, the sour worms, large pack for £1.19 are lovely. Parmesan good as said before and they do my daughter's favourite ham for just over £1 a packet when it's £2-3 elsewhere. Fruit and veg is cheap but you need to check the quality sometimes, when it's good there are bargains to be had!
    £2 savers club no.107 :j £36 so far.
  • aldi seem to have best valye fruit and veg, and tinned tuna too (going through a mermaid diet phase recently, lol)

I cant speak for their other odd hardwares, though!
Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)
  • Nettos chicken is good value, can't quite remember the weight but think it was 1kg (there was 6 chicken breasts of good size) and it was £5

Own value biscuits like custard creams are cheaper at Asda.

Oh and they have had a good deal on Heinz Beans recently, dunno when it ends but you get 6 cans for £2
Just me, in my own little world

  • Morning
Just received the Netto newsletter for this week and the best deals that catch the eye as follows:
    Utterly Butterly 2 for £1
    Cava 3 bottles for £10
    Stella 10 bottles for £5
    Carling 10 cans for £8
    Gala apples 1kg - 2 bags for £1
Rose wine (not sure of the make) 4 bottles or £10
27 pack of Penguin biscuits £1.50

They also have spirit offers on at the mo but I'm not sure how these fair to the other supermarkets :)

    On the subject of Aldi....

Gorgeous gingerbread houses, £5.99. Considering on the German Market in Manchester at the moment, I've seen them anything up to £15 a piece...seems well worth it. Might even get one! (although I can't say how long it'd last in our house....I'd get up in the morning and the roof has probably been eaten knowing my lot...they'd blame it on mice or something.... ;))
we got one and the children made it at the weekend - it looks fantastic, far better than most of the ready made ones I've seen. Its great value and the little touches like the three figures (Hansel and Gretel and the witch, I presume!) are fabulous.
