I've had poor experiences with Aldi oven chips too. And I bought some frozen roasting vegetables including purple onions. I thought they were really poor.
But Lidl always had some "thin" chips, sort of what you would get at McDonalds as of the last time I set foot inside one about ten years ago. But the Lidl chips were awesome. They cooked up perfectly, beautifully crisp, and were delicious. I hope they still do them.In lidl the bread flour was only 48p before xmas a big price increase.
I buy lots of Lidl bread flour, so that price increase is going to be noticed by my wallet0 -

I generally go for the Aldi Goldenfries:

which seem pretty good (a McCain Homefries clone I think). Their Specially Selected Chips are also very good.Stompa0 -

The ones I've got are "Champion Steak-Cut [Fries/Chips?]". I'm not that impressed. There are far too many small chips for "steak cut". I've noticed the "Specially Selected Chips" and was going to give those a go next. I'll look out for the Goldenfries too.0 -
I see Aldi super 6 is creeping up in price each month
Dec 39p per item, January 49p per item, Feb 69p each item

I've found Lidl's Jumbo Fries cook better than the ordinary oven chips but there are a few too many small chips which burn before the others are cooked so I guess the quality control isn't as stringent as branded oven chips. I tend to Iceland oven chips, never had a problem with any of theirs.0
