    What to buy ;) :
Tomato & Mascarpone pasta sauce (pouch) - 99p
Small tins of flavoured tuna, e.g. with sundried tomato & basil
Cartons of UHT milk - 35p per litre
    Fresh fruit & veg
    J+ bottled drinks - just like J20 but only 99p for 4
    Frozen veg
    Frozen chips
    Frozen sausages
    Fresh pizzas
    Naan bread
    Fresh minced beef
    Frozen stuffed pork joint (seasonal)
    Fresh sliced meats - ham

    What to avoid::eek:
Frozen chicken breasts - used to be ok but don't get much
    for your money anymore.
Chicken kievs - over £2.50 for 2, only £1.46 for 4 in Asda!

    Aldi

Snackrite- chili and lime flavoured almonds they were in the Christmas range snap them up if there are any left. £1.25, not cheap but fab as are all their nuts far in front of other stores.

Boxes of tissues in Lidl are one of the best buys ever. Cheaper than supermarket value brand ones and _so_ much nicer.
  • Vacuum-pack beetroot
    Celeriac
    Salad rocket
    Pickled red cabbage
    Sweet potatoes
    Aubergines
Vanilla rooibosch tea (but the other rooibosch flavours r less good)
3 cheers for having their cucumbers 'naked'!:T
    Parmesan/Parmigiano cheese
Olive oil (we like Vita D'Oro)
(Plain at least - not tried milk) Chocolate biscuits
    Wychwood & Shepherd Neame beers
    Washing-machine anti-scale tabs
    Noodle soup blocks
Cheap soya milk, but not as nice as Alpro Soleil, my fave!
    Tortillas
    Rice snacks ('Snacky Cracky'!)
    Ice-cream wafers
For the price, 'Bellarom' ground coffee is acceptable

    Aldi

If you like sauerkarut, you love the jars that Aldi sell. Scrumptious.

    Lidl

    Sardines in sunflower oil
    Mackerel in sunflower oil

    Can't live without them!
  • Apart from the food line with these supermarkets, the fact that if you buy any Electrical goods from them they are very well priced and also give a THREE year warranty!:j

Prefer Aldi to Lidl but shop in both. Aldi isn't as cheap as it used to be but on a like for like basis the quality is far far higher than Tesco.

    Best buys:

    Ham
    Continental meats
    Chocolate
    Cakes
    Cook in sauces
    Fish
    Frozen meals
    Breakfast cereal
    Pizza
    Fruit juice
    Bread
    Aldi beer, wine and spirits
    Toiletries
    Cosmetics
    Cleaning products

    What to avoid:

    Lidl 'Wheatabix'
  • From Lidls.... Nobody Has Mentioned Their Tinned Cashew Nuts
there Fantastic at £1.29 A Tin..superbly Fresh And Nowhere Have I Found Anyone To Beat Them

Bockwurst in a jar - lovely in lentil stew with spuddies and carrots; around 85p
As a German, I tend to buy my bread there, so the Whole Grain bread. Looks like concrete, but is very tasty and better for you. Give it a try!

Yay, Linsensuppe mit Bockwurst. :j Lidl's lentil soup (the large can variety made in Germany) isn't bad at all.

Quite off topic, but on bread I've found out that you can't tell any difference between typical German "Graubrot" and the Polish Bakery cut loaves they sell in Tesco or Asda for a quite reasonable £1.09. Same ingredients, same baking process, same taste.

    What to avoid:

    Lidl 'Wheatabix'

Aldi's are good though, better than 'Weetabix' I think.
