Does anybody know if the ALDI DVD RECORDERS are any good.
For looks they look a very tidy unit, much better than the Liteon recorder.

    Cheers

  • I have just downlaoded a manual for the JVC DMR-10

It says it is *NOT* multiregion.

The earlier link comparing the JVC and panasonic said the JVC was multi-region.

can anyone confirm whether this box really is multi-region?

I am considering waiting for dual layer dvd recorders to come out. Dual layer dvd drives for PCs have been out for a while.

Does anyone have any idea when/if dual layer recorders will be available?

Alternatively, if the lite-on recorder is just a PC in a box, could I replace the drive with a dual layer IDE drive?

Dual layer recorders are out for PCs but I believe the discs are quite expensive, e.g. Dabs own brand (their cheapest) are £7.99 each, compared to about 30p for a normal DVD-R, albeit for half the capacity. That strikes me as more expensive than buying an original DVD if part of the advantage of dual layer is the increased ease with which one can copy a commercial DVD.

I doubt if the firmware in the Liteon 5005 would accept a dual layer IDE drive.
  • HELP !!!

Is it possible to connect a PC/laptop to a DVD recorder in order to record video files straight to DVD ? ???

Before anyone says it...I KNOW you can get internal/external DVD recorder drives specifically for PCs/laptops (mine already has a CD-RW drive installed) ::) !

However, I was rather hoping it might be possible 'to kill 2 birds with 1 stone' so to speak...[ie. have a DVD recorder that I can use to record off TV/Digital and also use it to record some family vidoes from my PC (rather than spend on 2 separate units)].

The family video files on my Pc are too big to write in full (i.e. without splitting them) onto CD-R, so I was hoping (nay, praying) that it might be possible to connect a DVD recorder to my laptop and record them directly from laptop onto DVD.

    ??? Any ideas ? ???
No reliance should be placed on the above.
  • If your laptop has a TV out you could use that to connect direct to a DVD Recorder as long as it has a separate "Video in" and "Audio In" connectors, or you could get a scart to 3 phono lead and a stereo jack to 2 phono adapter and do it that way!
    Hope that isn't too confusing!

Might be possible if your laptop & DVDR both have firewire interfaces otherwise you will need a TV card in your laptop to give composite or RGB ouput (or s-video) which can then be fed into your DVDR. Another idea is to get an external DVD writer for your laptop (around £90).

Anyone know where I can get a DVD recorder that I can plug with an existing DVD player, and maybe record from DVD to DVD? Also a DVD recorder that can take ordinary DVD-/+ discs, and where I could plug in my camcorder cables to record from (analogue cables)???
  • Mine cost £150 - I've been robbed!!
