Would a DVD recorder be the answer to his prayers?

I am really enjoying reading this thread.

    The magazine for next weeks TV programs, 'TV and Satellite' out now, has a full page advert for a Mustek R100A DVD Recorder. But like every other recorder so far, "it's not all things to all men", it depends what you want. It’s supposed to be a ‘special’ Christmas offer at £189.99 which includes 10 re-recordable DVD’s. There is a comprehensive list of its features here;

Be interesting to know anyone else’s comments on this one.

  • a shop near me has the liteon 5005 for sale with a built in 40gb harddisk £150
    Waddle you do eh?
  • In reply to tair_bashir from yesterday.

It might be worth looking at the Panasonic DMR-65 which has some sort of PC connectivity on it. It's a bit pricier than some though at around £260. Check the Panasonic website.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply Bottom Dollar. I appreciate there are better machines out there that may allow Pc connectivity, but to be honest I wasn't wanting to spend £260 on a DVD recorder...i could buy the Lite-o 5005 and a separate external DVD recorder for my laptop for less than that.

I appreciate the reply though. :-)
No reliance should be placed on the above.

Yes, in my opinion, it probably could be the answer to his prayers. At least the Liteon 5005 would, because it can very easily record sound on to very low cost CD-Rs (or CD-RW). I'm not sure that all DVD recorders offer CD-R recording.

Until I bought the DVD recorder, I would occasionally hook up the hi-fi to the computer and record from LP records. I think the Liteon is easier, partly because my turntable is normally in the lounge and the computer is upstairs.

Simply connect 'tape out' or a similar output on the hi-fi amplifier, to the front phono-in sockets on the Liteon. Format a blank CD (very fast) and press record. At the end of side 1 of the LP or single record, press 'pause' on the Liteon' and release pause for side 2. If you press 'edit' it will start a new CD track. It will be more work, and require greater care (pressing edit in between all tracks) to split an LP into separate tracks on a CD, just as it is when using a computer.

    Good luck
    Regards
    George
  • Thanks George for that very comprehensive reply. I shall pass on this information and make a worried man very relieved.

  • Boots has the Panasonic 55 dvd-ram recorder for £199, AFAIK instore only.
and with advantage points this can be significantly reduced with the current multitude of offers, 3x + instore evening specials and high spend points deals/printouts.
