I have not changed my spending pattern, I always keep track of every penny I put on it and every penny I have in my Current Account. I earn on average £150 cashback which is credited to my statement every February and I then use this for a little treat for myself, something which I wouldn't normally spend that sort of money on. I have never hit a limit on the cashback which I receive and on the one occasion when I accidentally used my card for a cash withdrawal, I was charged a one off flat fee of £3.00 and no interest at all. Apparently they treat cash withdrawals, apart from the fee, as another purchase and as long as you clear your balance at the end of the month they do not charge interest. This dispels the myth that all credit cards charge interest on cash withdrawals from the minute that you withdraw it - Bank of Ireland Mastercard does not.
For me it is always my main card, except when I am in House of Frazer, when I use their Mastercard and receive vouchers for spending instore, just another way of giving myself a little treat every now and again.
Don't know what has happened to Visa, they don't seem to feature in any good credit card offers, yet to purchase tickets for the 2012 Olympics in London you can only use a Visa card. Guess I'll get one, use it solely for ticket payments if I'm lucky enough to get any, pay the balance in full and then cancel after the Olympics - or get somebody else to use theirs and give them the cash
Nothing would lure me away from my present cards, unless of course an offer such as 5% cashback which, let's face it, is not going to happen!
Given that the Bank of Ireland MoneyBack Card deal is:
MoneyBack on Purchases- 0.5% money paid back on purchases up to a total spend of £15,000 in any one year
Wouldn't you be around £140 pa better off with a Capital One World Mastercard paying 1%,though?- Unlimited Cashback - Earn 1% on EVERYTHING you buy
- £10 bonus credit every January to say thank you
- £18 Annual Fee applies

Halifax sent me my first Clarity statement on 26th Jan. As an existing Halifax Bank user, I logged the new card account and set up a direct debit online on 3rd FEb to pay off the full amount on the 21st Feb. Looked at the statement today 28th Feb and have been charged £12 late payment and £8.76 interest. Phoned up to query this and told that the direct debit was set up after the statement date UGH? Who sets up a Direst debit before ever getting the very first statment. I've read the statement small print and nothing is mentioned about this. They offered to pay back the £12 but not the interest.
Anyone else had this problem?0 -

I've set up a Direct Debit on opening an account a number of times and therefore its been active on the 1st statement. Its common practice that a DD is only active when you receive the message on you statement confirming the DD payment would be taken on xyz date.0 -

No, but from my own experience there's always a warning when setting up a direct debit on a credit card account that you should make payments as normal until the direct debit details actually appear on a statement.
Your situation is ridiculous, but probably not unusual. I hope a further complaint gets the interest written off for you.0 -
This page (link) says...New! Petrol & supermarket 1.5% cashback: The MBNA Amex* pays 1.5% cashback at all major petrol stations and supermarkets, eg, Asda, Tesco, Sainsbury's, Morrisons, Waitrose & Ocado, plus 0.75% cashback elsewhere. As some smaller retailers don't accept Amex, alternatively MBNA Visa* pays 1.25% cashback on supermarket/fuel and 0.5% elsewhere. For £300/week family spending, half on fuel & food, that's £175/year cashback (£137 on the Visa). If you don't fully repay, they're 18.9% representative APR
I make it £195 with 1.25% cashback (£234 at 1.5%). Who spends £150 per week on fuel?

GG
He means £300 pw on fuel and food in total - both qualify for 1.5% with this card.
The £175 represents £7800 (52 x £150) at 1.5% and the other £7800 at 0.75%.0 -
harryjacobson wrote: »why is Utility Warehouse (UW) Cashback card not mentioned in any of this forum discussions.
Possibly because it isn't a credit card - you have to keep it topped up with cash to be able to use it.0 -
but why wouldn't you and save 20-30% off your utility bills
There is a long history of reps coming onto these boards to try to sell their wares.
They don't generally have a good reputation because
1) The tarrifs are not transparent (complicated club fees etc.)
2) The advertising is simply not true (there have been complaints to the ASA)
3) The reps use sharp practice to sell
Generally they have a very poor reputation around here.
As an example you have come here claiming they are cheaper.
I have jsut cheked dual fuel in my area.
They were 54th cheapest out of a list of 74.
A very poor result. But it really the lies that we don't like.
If you are getting a good deal then good for you, but please don't try to spread false information on here, there are too many people that know facts about this company (like the ASA rulings) for you to get away with that.
If you weren't aware of the situation, then fair enough, but if you are just trying to get money by spreading false information then get knotted (and I'm being polite :-)0 -
harryjacobson wrote: »why is Utility Warehouse (UW) Cashback card not mentioned in any of this forum discussions. We use ours and get 3-7% cashback, which comes off our utility bills=monthly about £15-£20 a month plus we get 5% = (6.5p) off every litre of our diesel fuel (again discounted off our utility bills each month. This is far better than any of the other cashback schemes. yes you have to be a customer of UW, but why wouldn't you and save 20-30% off your utility bills (gas, electric, phone, broadband, mobile) each month. or is that not common sense.:j Harry Jacobson

Hi, this is my first post to MSE! Anyway, just been looking into cashback credit cards for pertol and supermarkets (MBNA Amex) but wasn't sure if you will get charged a 'cash withdrawal fee' from the credit card if you get cashback from the till when you buy your goods? Anyone know what happens in this scenario? Thanks.0
