I agree with you both the fault is with the banks and their customers it varies from bank to bank. HSBC is not one of the big offenders as they were not involved in the sub prime market in the same level as others. However in saying that people who brought 125% mortgages and self certified take a large share of the blame along with the former builidng societies.

How is that going to be done? I would still like monthly statements for my records as a lot of people only accept paper statements.

According to the person I spoke to who was dealing with my complaint that I've raised, it is possible for them to set it on the system so that an account still has monthly printed statements sent out instead of just quarterly ones - just a simple change their end to configure it to be that way.

It's something I want in writing though as part of the wrapping up of the complaint, as a telephone call "several months ago" will hold no water when I say someone said something and HSBC say that they didn't or that's not possible. If I've got it in writing then it's a different matter and I can use it to prove that I've been told x, y, z. Which ultimately is what the basis of my complaint (coupled with the incorrect T&C's) revolves around. I just want the info set out in writing, clear, consise, accurate, no possibility of confusion or misunderstanding unlike how it is currently.

My gosh Inactive, you are such a drama... who forced these ppl to take out loans, mortgages, credit cards that they couldnt pay?

I understand that maybe in the past borrowing was easier to come by but as far as I remember nobody in any financial institution was licenced to carry a gun.

There are so many reasons why banking is considered to be in a mess however consumers must accept responsibility for their own actions.

Banks did not get in this mess before they all jumped on the greed bandwagon did they?

Customers could never have got in to this mess if the banks had not have been so blind to reality.

Pure greed by the bankers etc. I'm afraid.

This would never have happened back in the days of the Midland Bank, so it is futile blaming customers for taking the easy option of easy credit, that is the fault of the banks IMO.

You know Midland was owned by HSBC seven years before they harmonised the brand right?

Indeed, a fine bank it was as well, it has gone downhill since HSBC took over IMO.
  • Man, I loved Midland and my free school bag I got back in the 80's :D

As for HSBC, I quite like them as far as banks go (and with greater capital than a lot of banks right now, would feel safer with them than most!). But I treat them the same as I treat all banks, with suspicion at what they're trying to sell me at all times! It's my job as a consumer to get the best deal for me, not theirs. I don't go to a market stall and expect a grocer to refuse my money because I can get apples for cheaper at the stall down the road.

Yes I agree get it in writing as the person could be trying to fob you off.

It is good to have it cleared one way or the other.

Im pretty sure you wont get a letter to say this as monthly stats are not part of the current account package.

you can call in and get an up to date one or order one on the phone but as far as i remember the system cannot be syncronised to do this on an automtic basis.
