HSBC Changing all Bank accounts

OK, serious question for the HSBC Bankers on here;
Can I open a Regular Saver Account Online?, I have looked and it seems only possible via Branch or Telephone.
Surely that cannot be correct.0 -

Could I not pretend to be a business customer and just ask for a bag? lol
Nah. Wouldn't work, for a variety of reasons - chiefly that, even if they didn't check when they handed out the bags, you'd have to put a paying in slip in the bag with your a/c number and name on it, and you'd probably get a call from them afterwards asking you not to bring in any more.0 -

OK thanks, it does seem a strange way to conduct business, especially as you often suggest that cashiers at Branches are inundated with customers causing queue's.
Oh well, no doubt they will be trying to flog something at the same time.;)0 -

But you wouldn't open an account with a cashier(:p)

Cashiers aren't the same people as the front office staff. It's really not something you can just pick up and go, and at any rate more often than not we have more demand than supply out there too.0 -

Fair enough, but it does seem somewhat strange that a customer cannot open an account online, especially when you people are always advocating customers doing things by modern methods.
No doubt HSBC will eventually drag itself in to the 21st century.;)
I can easily open savings accounts online at Nationwide for instance.0
