I can see both sides of the coin here, HSBC are a middle of the road bank. They risk very little because they dont have to? HSBC, the name and what it represents will always provide enough business without pushing the boat out regarding offers, deals etc.
Its not something I personally agree with, but at the end of the day there are millions of people who just arent bothered with the rate chasing malark and want a steady bank which has little risk of going bust? in the current climate HSBC is one of the few banks who arent constantly mentioned in relation to the credit crisis.
I would love to see HSBC offer a deal like A&L 8.5% with no monthly fee, because they would clean up? but they dont need to so they dont bother, sad but true.Millionaire in Training

What does the change to VIS mean?
Also if you have got less then £50,000 you would be better off in a credit union. I am going to set up an account with my local one in about 2 hours time.0 -
I think its meant to say VISA, HSBC are swithing from Maestro/Cirrus. As far as I am aware the credit cards are swictching from Mastercard to Visa aswell? its daft but its something like mastercard is accepted at 98% of the worlds debit systems and visa is 99% or something to that effect? Ive read it somewhere but quite a while ago.Millionaire in Training

I've just received my letter telling me my account is changing. Apparently I've been with them 24 years and they will be stopping the interest they pay me at present.
For the amount of money HSBC will save by doing this is it really worth upsetting people?
I'm off to Quidco to look for another bank. Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0 -

Once again.
Going from 0.1% to 0.0% is not going to make any difference to you.
Whats with all the moaners on this thread moaning about losing 0.1% interest?0 -
Who will get them ( forced or otherwise) and what are the pros and cons compared with an ordinary HSBC card?
Not much really. You can't use Maestro Solo in stations when you can use Visa.
Its costing shops etc. more as the cost to process a Visa card compared to a Maestro card is more.0 -

yknow i never thought of that, My hairdresser constantly gripes about HSBC charging the earth for Chip and Pin, I assume it will be more with VISA! She wont be happy!Millionaire in Training

Well it is evident that HSBC are good at " brain washing " their staff, even if they are not quite so good at doing the same to their customers.
I'm sorry, "brainwashing"? You'd be hard pressed to find anyone, outside the MSE echo chamber, that truly cares about the loss of a pittance of interest. That's what HSBC found when they did a survey. You're in the minority. Sorry.0
