I typically open bonds with multiple cheques drawn on different current accounts. (I have several high interest current accounts, which I fund up to the threshold.)
Interesting, when I have attempted to do this (by tel.) I have been told it is not possible. resulting loss of interest is not insignificant.0 -

Just spoken to AA for the 6th time since last week.
They have just said they are working on new account applications received on 9/10/08.
The chap that I spoke to last week said a system generated email will be sent out with the online user id on the night the account is opened.
Has anyone received such email? Thanks.0 -
Yes,you will get an email the day after your cheque has been paid in.
contents of email:

Thanks for your reply.
Does it mean if I receive the email tomorrow, I will need to transfer the amount in to my current account tomorrow for the cheque to clear on working day number 3? Thanks.0 -
yes, thats what I do. I normally do the transfer just after midnight.0

Hi all.
Apologies if this point has been raised already, or if it is "off-topic" - I'm pretty new at this.
So far this thread seems to cover cheque deposits, but when I applied on-line on 7th October I was not given any options - I was informed that my initial deposit (which I had to specify) would be taken by Direct Debit from my linked account, which was the same as the one I have for my other AA accounts.
I have received letters pretty soon after through the post confirming the account setup and that the Direct Debit had been "processed". However, my linked account still does not show the transfer has occurred. I can access the new AA account on-line, but it is showing zero balance and no pending transactions. It also does not permit deposits.
I have sent 2 emails to AA over the last 2 weeks and all I've had back so far is the automated acknowledgement and a reference number.
Any ideas? I am afraid that this delay will mean I miss the deadline through no fault of my own.

No idea, you could try calling 01902 325504 and choose option 2 to speak to an advisor. It's cheaper than the 0845 number on their website.0

I called them as you suggested and spoke to a very helpful young lady in Wolverhampton. It appeared that there had been a few initial technical teething problems on the website and there was no transaction pending for my account. She suggested I could either make a deposit again through their website (Direct Debit), or set up a BACS transfer from my Linked account, or send a cheque as long as it arrived by the deadline (Friday 24th).
I discovered that the Make Deposit button was now available on their website, so made the request and it is now showing on the Pending Transactions page.
Looks like I'm sorted. Thanks again for your help, Spectator.0 -
Just to let those of you know who are still concerned as to whether your cheque gets there in time.
I waited about a week for the application letter requesting a cheque, after applying over the net.
I sent the form and cheque back last Thursday, got an email yesterday to say it had been opened and on checking my current account just now,the money has been taken. So not bad going, when you consider how busy they will have been ,especially when the interest rate dropped so much.0
