    Tyler,

    A quite incredible comment!

Have we been reading the same thread?

I would have said that virtually every person who has posted has expressed concern at her lax attitude.

What puzzles me here is that so many have posted on this thread critisising the OP for condoning DD. But she hasn't. And right on cue:

She didn't stand up for her - she didn't defend her - she just came on this forum and started a thread asking advice to help her. I would like to think I would do the same for my children in the same circumstances.

Cigito's "holier than though comment" rings so true here.

Lets put some perspective on this matter. Firstly she is 22 and has had a terrible couple of years ( aneroxia, a suicidal alcoholic father, having to leave home for a year etc). She now lives with me alone and we are strugglng to keep a roof over our heads. I am sure she did not realise that not opening her post could lead to this and we are going to explain to the other driver and see what happens. But she is not a heroin dealer or murderer so people should back off a little bit with the high handed attitude. Lets not forget he pulled out and hit her not the other way round. She is just a young woman who made a silly mistake not a mass murderer!!

She DID stand up for her - She DID defend her. You must have overlooked that post eh PVT

Also if you read the end of what you quoted of me. Im not condoning her for standing up for her daughter. Maybe the end of my sentence wasn't clear enough for you?

Maybe it has all ready been established and I missed it in the earlier posts.

Was the centre line solid or dashed?

    It is dashed.

Maybe you should look at your own circumstances. You pay £2000 a year for insurance on a high powered car and do without lunch and pay bank charges so you can have this car. Surely that is out of perspective. And yes one day maybe you will have a family and then see how you feel about standing up for them. By the way she has heard nothing from anyone as yet in case you were concerned!! I now await a barrage of criticism on here. I like a good fight though!!

Seems that a lot of folk are mis-understanding postings here!
E.G. how the whole context of a sentence changed when a comma wasn't applied in Tyler's post, then we have Gaz Jones' "Many months i've had to choose between eating lunch at work for the month or paying my insurance." I read that as he decided not to buy take-away sandwiches or canteen food rather than starving himself. Was I wong, Gaz?
Personally I don't have a problem with how you spend your money. You earn it, you choose to spend it on a costly car, you also accept the responsibilities that owning such a car brings with it. (But then, I don't tell Big Issue sellers to buy food with their earnings either- their earnings, their spending choice!) You're 19 FGS! At least you have a responsible attitude towards your finances, i.e. "If I want it, I have to pay for it, even if that means making some sacrifices." We had to make similar sacrifices when we decided to enter the home-ownership club. When you decide to settle down and maybe buy a home/ raise a family etc then of course your outlook and priorities will change. That's the way life is / should be.
I suppose the point of this post is a comment on the simmering resentment behind the fact the OP's daughter demonstrated an irresponsible attitude towards her spending, which could have impacted tragically on others. Luckily it didn't, or the Op would have found it much more difficult, if not impossible to attempt to defend her from the criticism here. Mum's do defend their children, again, it's how life is / should be, but they can't expect others to do so if they believe their attitude or behaviour is fundamentally wrong.
Worse things will have happened in the world today...

Try reading it again with a ',' after the No, that's how it was meant.

If you had read the tread you would have seen that I'm one of the people critising the OP's daughter for driving without insurance. I work as a driver, I spend 8 hours a day on the roads, we all know accidents happen, but if it happens to me I want my family to be covered, that's what insurance is about.

    Hi Tyler,

The comma makes all the difference. I read it as you wrote it rather than as you meant it.;)

    Gaz,

I hadn't overlooked that post - it was posted quite a way through the thread and read it more as defence of the critisism levelled at Rose herself for daring to help her daughter sort her problems out.

    But your point is taken.

just being reading this thread, totally understand her daughter done wrong, she broke the law by not keeping her policy up to date.her mother only wanted some advice on the matter of the accident, but looking through the posts it seems to have turned into some witch hunt, thought we were more civilised than that.

Exactly my sentiments. I posted a thread about my Disabled BIL last year and it got so nasty I vowed I would not post again. However you do get some people who will help on here without critisicing on here so I do still post. By the way she has not heard anything and a friend is looking out for a second hand door to sort out the damage. She has also applied for a supervisors job at work and although it will be hard studying and working she wants to keep her head above water. Shame is if she decided to go away to Uni and study she would get full funding but because she studies online the authorities considered it a part time course ( it is full time hours) and she only gets partial funding. However the Uni charged full time fees. But that is another problem we have to solve.

Just thought I would post to say the Police called DD today and came to see her. He said other driver reported her for no insurance. She made a short statement and he said she may or may not get a summons but she should get a solicitor to represent her. We then discussed the accident and he said the other driver said she turned right and drove into him. Now everybody will be glad she has been reported and we did expect it and will deal with it. We have already looked online and if she gets 6 points it will only make a difference of about £80.00 per year and after January next year she probably wont have a car for 3 or 4 years anyway.
Now he was able to report her to the police and be an honest citizen but was unable to tell the truth about hitting her!! Strikes me he is not so honest after all.
