Who is liable for this crash

  • I echo the opinions of several here, this is TWO issues. I am a driving instructor, technically form what you have said, and presuming that she was on the major road with priority it would appear that the other driver was at fault over the accident however no insurance is illegal and notopening the letter is no excuse.

We all work hard to ensure we pay for things like insurance and I am sure with the current economic situation many people are struggling for cash but still manage to pay the thngs legally required like car insurance.

She should be reminded that driving with no insurance means that if she had swerved to avoid a car and killed a child there would be nobody to compensate that poor child (apart from the uninsured drivers fund that the rest of us have to pay into).

From what youve said he is liable for this one, she would normally contact her insurers to sort her damage and claim from the other driver. In this case I think an open honest chat with him and hope he is decent. Otherwise say hello to points, and seriously increased premiums as insurers take driving without insurance convictions VERY seriously when calculating policy premiums.

She has tried to talk to him and he says his insurance are dealing with it and he wont settle without insurers as his wife is a policeman. Regarding killing a child lots of people have mentioned this on here and it seem all people are concerned with is compensation.

No people on here are concerned with your daughters lax attitude towards driving. Having a bad few years is no excuse for not having valid insurance on her car.

If your daughter had run into me, and killed me whilst driving with no insurance there would be no payout for my family. With me gone they could not afford to pay for the house, ect.

People are using the example of a child to highlight how bad driving without insurance can be, and how costly.

The holier than thou attitude from some of the posters on this thread is truly sickening.

Well, if I am holier than thou because I insure my car and do not think it ok to spend the money on new clothes instead, then so be it...

I'm very happy, in this instance, to say I am holier then thou! Wouldn't want to be any other way in fact!

Just read this whole topic front to back.

I'm a 19 year old male that drives a powerful hatchback. Insurance companies dream shall we say =)

My premium is just under £2000 a year fully comp. That is a huge chunk of my wages. Many months i've had to choose between eating lunch at work for the month or paying my insurance. Not once have I missed an insurance payment even if I had to go into my overdraft and pay it back over time. Driving with no insurance is as bad as driving with no license imo.

By no means am I a perfect teenager. I've done/do my share of bad things. No ones perfect.

I do understand though if I dont have insurance, I dont drive. I realise how much my driving license means to me. Not only that but as other people have said.....what if there had been an injured party in all of this?

Obvioulsy as the drivers mum your going to stand up for her. Dont be suprised when people jump down your throat for defending an uninsured driver though. I would put money on your opinion being different if it wasn't your daughter.

Earlier in the topic you said atleast she's not a drug dealer. Atleast people buying drugs know what they're doing. People unlucky enough to hit/get hit by an uninsured driver had no idea what was coming.
This is my signature. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Maybe it has all ready been established and I missed it in the earlier posts.

Was the centre line solid or dashed?

    Tyler,

    A quite incredible comment!

Have we been reading the same thread?

I would have said that virtually every person who has posted has expressed concern at her lax attitude.

What puzzles me here is that so many have posted on this thread critisising the OP for condoning DD. But she hasn't. And right on cue:

She didn't stand up for her - she didn't defend her - she just came on this forum and started a thread asking advice to help her. I would like to think I would do the same for my children in the same circumstances.

Cigito's "holier than though comment" rings so true here.

Try reading it again with a ',' after the No, that's how it was meant.

If you had read the tread you would have seen that I'm one of the people critising the OP's daughter for driving without insurance. I work as a driver, I spend 8 hours a day on the roads, we all know accidents happen, but if it happens to me I want my family to be covered, that's what insurance is about.
