Has anyone had any word as to what LHW are doing about this offer, since the debarcle was a week ago.

Maybe they'll just bin the idea and give a crumby 5/10% discount on hotels, or possibly they are sorting out a load of servers to cope with demand.

I wonder if advertising these type of offers in newsletters is really in the spirit of 'money saving'; since the vast majority of people have their time wasted rather than save money.

Well clearly there is a free advertising motive.
However I am minded to believe that this was incomptance rather than anything more sinister. After all it hasn't given them great publicity and probably cost them a lot in staff time.

Personally I have gone for more realistic offers as it's blatantly obvious these are going to be obversubscribed.
I've recently booked a 4*deluxe hotel for £60 per room (incuding breakfast) in the last minute 45% off sale.
In a lot of decent hotels, 2 breakfasts are £30 so this is a pretty good deal.
If people are genuinely interested in getting a good deal then I recommend last minute or travel zoo.

However these ones for pocket money are almost always massively over subscribed.
The only exception is travelodge where there is a realistic chance of getting a £9 room if you are flexible.

I've heard nothing and just checked the site; the apology message is still up there. They promised something this week, so I guess we wait and see. I thought about emailing them to remind them but I'm sure they are getting enough questions and last time I emailed them, it bounced.

Personally I think if anyone is expecting a seriously good offer for 150,000 people then they are deluding themselves.

It will either be a small discount e.g. 15% for everyone.
OR
They will work out some way to fairly disttribute 6,000 rooms amongst the masses.

Either way I think you'll be very lucky to get anything of significance (which was the case originally).
Hopefully they can find a fair way (like a random lottery) of sharing out the original deal.

I just sent an email to Ted Teng ([EMAIL="tteng@rim.com"]tteng@rim.com[/EMAIL]) and also [EMAIL="info@lhw.com"]info@lhw.com[/EMAIL], asking what is happening and when they would let us know as it has been over a week.

I got a reply from both asking me to confirm my address (junk filter) and then a mail back saying my emails were accepted. I'm sure they were only added to their probably already overflowing mailboxes!

We shall see.

I would like to once again express my gratitude for your continued support, understanding, and patience with The Leading Hotels of the World. Since October 1, we have explored and evaluated many solutions to the technological failures encountered during the online USD 19.28 Sale.

I am delighted to inform you that today we selected Akamai Technologies, Inc., the world premier web content delivery network, with clients such as Yahoo, Travelocity, and Amazon. Together we are working diligently to finalize a new procedure whereby you, as well as the other 150,000 registrants, will have a chance to secure one of the originally allotted 6,000 room nights that are available at the rate of USD 19.28.

In developing a fair and foolproof platform, we have been faced with various considerations. Timing - both on the developmental front as well as for your trip-planning purposes - has proven to be our major and foremost concern. We chose to preserve the hotel availability dates, which in most cases began on November 1, as to not delay the promotion by several months. We also opted to maintain the promotion on a first-come, first-served basis. To make the offer a random selection or lottery would significantly delay the re-launch due to complicated international regulations.
