  • Last month ASDA were selling bottles of cider (Sirrus, Old Rosie etc) 1.20 a bottle or 3 for 4.00!!!!

I bought six and only paid 7.20...so they obviously charge the offer price or the price of each item, whichever is cheaper

well i thought the same but obviously not, for example morrisons own brand value butter is dearer than the cheapest equivalent (willow is 68p and the value 1 is 80 odd pence) and the same in sainsburys where the basics butter is 80 odd pence but the cheapest butter is a brand name and not a morrisons own brand, im starting to look at the price of the basics brand items and see if it is actually cheaper than the supermarkets next best price own brand item

but willow isn't butter, it's a buttermilk and vegetable oil mix, (now virtually trans fat free!) and real butter is always going to be more expensive

willow's ingredients : Vegetable Oils, Butter Milk (29%), Water, Skimmed Milk, Cream, Salt (1.7%), Emulsifier (e471, Soya Lecithin), Flavourings, Vitamin (e, a & D), Colour (e160a).

    sainsbury's value butter : Butter, Salt (2%)

The problem occurs because you have one person who puts signage out on the offers and someone else doing the price changes, but the person doing the price changes doesn't think to remove the signage, and the person who does the signage doesn't know the prices have changed and the offers not valid.
The way the offers work is the till deducts a set amount, eg somethings £1, or 2 for £1.50, when scanned the till deducts 50p, if there is then a price change to 75p and the offers not removed from the system, the till still deducts 50p (this doesn't happen very often though, they usually remember to remove the offer!) So you will should never get charged more if the single items are cheaper than the offer...hope that all made sense!
