well i thought the same but obviously not, for example morrisons own brand value butter is dearer than the cheapest equivalent (willow is 68p and the value 1 is 80 odd pence) and the same in sainsburys where the basics butter is 80 odd pence but the cheapest butter is a brand name and not a morrisons own brand, im starting to look at the price of the basics brand items and see if it is actually cheaper than the supermarkets next best price own brand item

Looked at Willow last time, but decided against it as it is not actually butter. Call me fussy, but I need butter for my

Do the world a favour please everyone; dont buy anything from ASDA, the quality is uniformly terrible and supporting them only makes it difficult for the smaller guys who can provide excellence locally.

I've switched from Tesco to Asda because Tesco's quality is truly awful. At least I'm not throwing fruit and veg away after one/two days of buying it! Shame the farm shops, butchers and local greengrocers don't open other than when I'm at work

On a similar note, but it's not food related.

I saw Fawlty Towers on DVD in a high street music and DVD shop. As there were only 2 series made, the complete Fawlty Towers on DVD cost £20. Buying the series seperately cost £8 each.

I have seen this sort of examples several times. For example, I purchased Abba Forever Gold (Gold and More Gold in a double album) for 50p less than one of the albums purchased seperately.

Now that I'm looking for these "deals" I'm seeing quite a few, in all areas - still amazes me that people don't bother looking at the normal price and go for these

Today in Morrisons I noticed Muller corners on offer, 4 singles for £2.00, however the six pack is £2.00 also. You can guess which ones I bought

That's a bit like my local Tescos - 5 muller corners for £1 or you could get the not so good offer of 2 packs of 6 muller corners for £5!!

How about this.In our local tecso the value beetroot costs more than the tesco own brand. I thought it should always be the other way around

its the same with sainsburys and morrisons basics/value butter is dearer than the cheaper equivalent eg in sainsburys willow is cheaper than the basics butter by 16p,
  • Whilst doing my monthly shop, i was looking at Asda own smart price branded products and noticed that they were selling 4 cans of larger for 91p and a box of 12 for 2.88. Yet if you purchase 3 packs of the 4 cans for 91p my sums comes to 2.73.
  • Another to watch out for is shopping online for groceries at Asda, their smart price cordial orange is 15p online yet on the bottle it states 16p check your receipts my husband purchased 10 yesterday in store at 16p. I know its only 1p but in this Credit Crunch every penny adds up
