I thought the bag would melt in the toaster so I didn't buy them! ashamed0002.gif They're on my list now.

Just thinking of my toaster, I can't believe that two slices of bread plus a filling will fit down one of the slots! They are made to take one slice of bread and even some of my home-cut 'doorsteps' get stuck. Has everybody else got super-large slots on theirs?
  • lilac_lady that is exactly what i thought, i wondered how on earth the bag didn't melt or burn for that matter.

I've only used it the once and the cheese didn't melt at all, it was just perfect, the right kind of melted cheese you'd want and the bread toasted perfectly.

I got mine from woolworths, JML brand. I didn't know you could get them cheaper else where like some people have said. I've never seen them in any other stores in my area, so i was happy to pay £3.99 for 2.

  • The little booklet that comes with the bags does say you may have to push down on the sandwich once in the toaster bag to flatten it down to fit into your toaster.

My toaster is a 2 slice one and i wouldn't say i have super large slots on it, cheese/tomato fitted perfectly. Guess i will find out what my limit is on ingredients soon enough.

I think you need the type of toaster that has expandable sides in the slots that hold the bread, which adjust to the thickness of your slices.

Also, some of these toasty bags say they can be used for cooking oven chips and various other things - don't! I tried once and it took about 30 mins in the toaster to get the chips cooked enough to eat, and the toasty bag went into holes :(.
    :D I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe :D

  • Sounds good but I like my toasties all sealed like they are when they come out of the toastie machine.

Hmmm, I never had much success with these bags. It seemed to me that in order to get cheese (say) to melt you have to leave it in the toaster for a long time in which case the bread burns.

So I ended up with either burnt toast and melted cheese, or properly toasted bread and unmelted cheese. Perhaps I was doing something wrong?
