OS Daily Thread - Sunday 21st September

Hi, this is the OS Daily thread for Sunday 21st September. It is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything OS and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an OS natter. The more the merrier!

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem, we’re a laid back bunch here so you won’t hear any complaints. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well

Hi everyone!

Another early morning for me. I won't tell you why the cat is in my bad books in case you are eating breakfast but she can sit on my desk next to me and purr as much as she likes and I won't be paying any attention to her!

We are having stew in the slow cooker tonight, with stewing steak out of the freezer and whatever vegetables I can find. Plus chillis and peppers and a few tomatoes straight from my garden of course!! God I love saying that! Growing and eating your own vegetables is just so much fun.

I hope everyone has a great day today whatever you are doing. The weather forecast is for another two days of sunshine here so I hope that is accurate, I really need some more time in the garden.

Meanmarie - that must have been so scary. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your OH.

Anyway, *hugs* to all who need them and congratulations to anyone who is celebrating something today.

    Good morning all.

Meanmarie - sending lots of (((hugs))) to you and your DH - will be thinking about you and will keep checking back for news.

I hope everyone else is well; I didn't get much time on here yesterday; I seemed to spend all day cooking but at least we're well stocked up with things. I also made some more soup in the Remoska. I don't know why but I seem to be on a soup-making mission since I bought it. I suppose it's because you can just shove everything in it and get on with other things. Yesterday's was delicious - one sweet potato, two ordinary potatoes, red lentils, onions and garlic, along with some butter, herbs, seasoning and stock. So easy to make and it makes enough for some for the freezer, too.

I made loads of cakes and bread, too, so I seemed to spend most of the day in the kitchen.

Dinner today is roast chicken with potatoes, carrots, curly kale and gravy and fresh fruit and icecream for pud so that will be easy. I prepped everything yesterday. I need to get the ironing done today and also re-install both the printers to the computer after the crash the other day. I went to print something off and couldn't but could not be bothered to sort it out yesterday.

The weather was lovely yesterday; we have had more sunshine in September than in the whole of July or August, I think. We popped out to the bottle bank and it was lovely just to stroll around in the warmth after such a gloomy few months.

(((Hugs))) to Smoky, PenPin, Beth and her family, Jayward, Essex-girl's Dad and Candygirl's Mum and Dad and all who need one.

    Churchmouse - :hello: :hello: :hello:

I enjoyed Strictly last night but I just wish the judges didn't act as if the newbies should have become as good as the professionals by week one! I thought the standard was very good considering it was the first time out for them. My DH was entranced by Ola's cat suit which looked as if it had been painted on to her!

Anyway, I'm going to put the kettle on again for another cuppa, then have a shower.

    See you all later.

    Good morning everyone,

    ((HUGS)) Meanmarie xxx

:hello: Taplady, mrs mix, Shez, Twink, Ivyleaf and everyone else, as my mind has gone blank!!!

Thank you to everyone for DSs birthday wishes yesterday - apart from the fact his team lost their football match and got told off by their coach, he had a lovely day!!! The weather was lovely and he loved spending his birthday money! We ended the day with popcorn and lots of cake, so def his sort of evening, whilst DD and i enjoyed Strictly and X Factor - still dont know who my fav will be on Strictly yet tho!

Today is going to be difficult - their dad is coming down to take them out for the day, so ive arranged with my friend to be a 'Lady wot Lunches'!!! The problem is, DD is working herself up into a little paddy, as she doesnt want to go with her dad - i dont blame her after all he puts her through, but im not sure what to do for the best. She wanted to text him to say she wasnt going to go with him, but ive said if she is old enough to make that choice, then she is old enough to tell him herself - i feel rotten tho, she has very little confidence and her dad isnt the, how can i put this, easiest of people even when he is being nice (im sure ive moaned on about him enough in the past!) There is no problem with her staying with me, so we will see how she feels when he gets here maybe. He hardly sees them, so he is making the effort to get here for about 11 - not sure for how long tho, but ive decided to tell him i wont be home until 4, so im sure he will be having a winge at me for that - surely he should want to spend time with them?!

Anyway, enough about him - id better get on - i havnt been reading the thread properly for ages now, but there seem to be quite a few people MIA -so hope those who arnt posting anymore are ok!!!

    Have a lovely day everyone,
    Take care xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Hi Catowen - belated Happy Birthday to your DS for yesterday. It's a difficult situation for your DD - I hope she enjoys her day, whoever she spends it with.

  • Morning,

just a quick one at the mo as realised laptop battery nearly flat & the charger is downstairs again..!
Hugs for you MeanMarie, for you & OH.
Good luck to Sistercas's DD for her swimming gala!!

MSDiva, one of my cats slept on my bed last night - I don't really like them doing that, but she was running around all wild & yowly for ages, then was almost howling at my bedroom door!!!! So I figured if I wanted some sleep....
Catowen, it is so difficult with kids when they don't want to go out with their dad. My 3 DD's feel the same sometimes, although now the oldest 2 are 15 & 16 they're busy with their friends/part-time jobs etc anyway. My youngest (12) still goes out with him on a Sunday, but not for that long. She did tell him the other week she didn't want to go & although he grumped somewhat, he did accept it. (They all know he's a miserable sod so are prepared for him to moan anyway....).
Mioliere, I love Strictly too :) But I do agree with you about the judges & their comments. Especially Craig's. I know he was on something the other week saying he is passionate about dance & tries to make his comments specific to what was good/bad - but it was Week 1 this week...... Sometimes I get irritated by the judges too as they do try to hog the limelight & think they're wonderful, lol!!! I thought Ola's catsuit was just a little OTT.....(not that I'm jealous I don't have a figure like that!)

Have managed to write more than I thought I would, but good job I type fast!! Will come back later when I've picked up the charger (when downstairs making tea....)

Meantime, (((((((((hugs)))))))) for all those needing them & have a good day. The sun is shining & the sky is blue - summer has arrived!!!!! lol

Edit - how thick am I.... the charger is on the floor next to my bed where I am currently laying.... d'oh!!!!!!!!!!!

    morning everyone

meanmarie hope you get some good news from the hospital today. Catowen hope today goes with out too much stress for all concerned.
congratualtions and get well wishes for those who need them later in the thread,..in case I don't get back ;)
DS showed up yesterday with his washing, so thats kind of thrown my meal plan out of sorts, but will be ok. so today will be washing and ironing. bought some winter bedding, including some ornamental cabbages! and some bulbs yesterday, so will replant my tubs which I keep at front door. they are looking very sad at present as the last of the summer bedding dies back. He's home to pick up a TV so will need to sort out a tv licence for him too....more expense. But you can do it online now and get an email version of the licence sent immeadiately. His dad is feeling flush and says he'll pay it :) just as well, my current account is hovering around zero at the moment. But its pay day this week, making next month the dreaded 5 week month :(
have decided after reading the feed my family for £20 thread I could do much better. Have noticed, and DS has only been gone a week, my cupboards are not emptying as fast ;) . within an hour of him coming home the goodie cupboard certainly took a hit :)
    have a great day everyone.

    Mornig all,
2 Legs of YS lamb cooking, I'll freeze 1, am doing both as it will save on electric, WM on and ironing board ready. DH will prep vegies. Just pottering today, so nice not to have to don work clothes. Plan to meet friends down the local then home for dinner and feet up on front of TV. Seems like I'm the only one not into Strictly.

MEANMARIE, I do hope your DH has had a restfull night and will soon be on the mend. I know how worrying it is but the Drs are so thourough they will have him sorted in no time. (((( Hugs to both of you ))))

SMOKIE, PENPIN, JACKI O, MRS. MIX, CANDY AND Family, ESSEX and DAD.
    ((((((((((((((( hUGS )))))))))))))))
  • Good Morning All

(((hugs))) where needed, hope you feel better soon FunkyFairy

Looks like will be a nice day but its absolutely freezing at the mom (due to the fog I guess) so the heating is going on for a short while as I need to go in the shower in a mo.

DS was meant to be out today with his best friend & his family but think they have had a fall out and now doesnt want to go - Catowen - I am like you - he has made his decision so he must let them know, difference is I know he would have a good time if he went.

I am mainly ironing today and obviously watching the footie later. DS doesnt have a match as it is his 'rest' week.

Roast chicken for lunch time and will make a loaf for tea.

    Have a lovely Sunday.
