  • Well done you!

Maybe you could get it to `befriend' you by waggling wool or string - all kittens like to play feral or not.

    Regarding it's other family/home I don't know what to say/advise.
  • Don't go treating anything until you have seen a vet this kitten may well be younger than you think.
  • We rescued a tiny feral kitten about three weeks ago. She wouldn't come out from behind the fridge for the first week, spent the next week really wanting to play with us, but too nervous to, now she's a pain in the neck, and here she is in her favourite spot!

    She is adorable :D

Maybe I can find a kitten needing rescued, it would give me the perfect excuse to have another cat :rotfl:

I was on my way home from work last night and spotted a tiny kitten sat on the edge of a field right next to an extremely busy roundabout and 2 main roads. I tried to call it over but it was very frightened and could only have been about 8 weeks old. Too young to be out and about. I came back with some food to try and bribe it to come over to me. However a passing man decided to "help" and ignoring me chased it all over the field and caught it (getting a good biting in the process!).

So I brought it home and it is currently residing in the spare room. It is absolutely petrified after it's ordeal and has wedged itself into a tiny gap under the bed. It is coming out for food but won't come anywhere near me so I can't check it over or anything! I don't know if it is a feral kitten or just an extremely traumatised lost kitten! It is so tiny.

I am going to make up a poster saying I have found it to see if any owners come forward. Does anyone else have any useful advice? Is there anyone I should notify that I have found it? How can I get it to trust me?

It could really do with being checked over by a vet and being de-flea'd but I don't want to upset it anymore at the moment as I think it has been through enough. I also think I should probably go back to the spot I found it in case there is a litter of feral kitties there, although it is just a flat football field so I don't know where they would be hiding?
just be nice , kind and feed him hell come and play when hes ready

Thanks for the replies! I am feeling much more confident that I can eventually win over kitty with all your advice. He/she is currently purring under the bed! Maybe trying to comfort itself?

Splishsplash what a cutie pie! Do you know how old she is, she seems about the same size as the one I have found?

Sound like you are doing everything right so far Aylana, the little kitten must be feeling a bit more secure if it is sitting under the bed purring.

Splishsplash what a gorgeous little kitten so cute

    Drea,

anytime you want one - just give me a pm! I'm sure we could find the perfect spot for it to be sitting safely awaiting your rescue;) :rotfl:

Hi Aylana, glad to hear there is some progress - and that the litter tray was used;) . Most cats/kittens will look for something to scratch IN to use as a loo - so it doesn't really suggest that the kitten was a pet/domestic in the first place I'm afraid. They learn quickly though.

Are the eyes blue - or how far have they changed to yellow/green? They change gradually from about 3 to 4 weeks old onward, usually, so if they are well on the way to their adult colour then the kitten could be as much as 8 to 12 weeks old! Ferrals are often difficult to "date" as they are seldom that well nourished from birth (compared to domestic bred kits of course) and can be on the small size for their actual age, if compared to a kitten which has been reared with a spoiled and pampered mum and wormed and so forth.

Good luck with the taming! It really is a lovely feeling when they come around to the idea of love! The playing with a cat toy or a small ball, or even a cotton reel on a string is a good idea - especially if you can sneak in a little stroke whilst the game is going on;) .

Another crafty one is to take a tiny dish of something really nice (like a little piece of tuna or pilchard or something equally strong smelling) and put the dish right next to your leg and pretend to ignore it whilst you read. Don't touch the first few times you do it, then lay your hand next to the dish, then lift a finger as kitty eats and touch a cheek gently - you get the gist I'm sure! I have used this method with kittens, and used a jam jar lid so that it was only a tiny amount of food each time: keeps them coming back for another little nibble rather than going off to sleep it off! This also worked for my OH with an adult stray he was determined to tame - although it took several months before he would actually allow us to stroke him without the titbits!

Good luck, and keep us updated! What colour is it by the way?

:rotfl: I'd love another cat, not sure how my one would take to it though.
