Just to let you know I had a similar experience yesterday, and wasted nearly an hour of my life. They wouldn't accept my form without a letter from other provider to confirm there was no sort code. I've got to go back in again and I really wonder if it's worth the hassle..

I went to my local branch yesterday, to hand in my completed transfer form.
I explained that I had no Sort Code, and was asked if I would speak to my
existing provider to request the details if they rang them now? The call was
made, details provided and the Form completed.

I was given a receipt and copies of all the Forms. I just hope the Transfer itself
    goes as smoothly.

We shall see, I was originally told the account wasn't available yet, that the
staff had just had a briefing about it, also no mention was made of having a
    linked Instant Access account either.

I do have a Current account and an eSaver with them though.

Slightly apprehensive, but hoping for the best !!

I phoned the freephone number this morning, and was told I could transfer any amount from an existing ISA.
I went into the branch this morning, and completed my forms, leaving all but £**** in the existing account.( I've already opened an ISA with a different provider this year) The branch phoned me this afternoon to say it was not possible to do this.
I contacted the helpline, and they said they had received further clarification today, and they can only transfer previous years if they are identifiable. They cannot accept partial transfers.
Just wondered if anyone had been told anything different..

yes you can - there is no notice period required at Barcs before you jump ship. Rate at Barcs is 6.08% (including the bonus rate you'll be on in the first year.)

FWIW you can't possibly have £6700 in the Tax Haven - the annual limit is £3600. £3K or so of this must be in your Tax Beater ISA from the previous year - which will prob be on a paltry rate now anyway. Correct me if I'm mistaken!

    cheers

colinw: Could you ask Nationwide if they allow partial transfers out? If they do, here's a plan:

Transfer out £1 from Nationwide to Natwest, agreeing to pay the interest penalty (check it's only on the transfer amount and not the whole balance). This will open the Natwest ISA at the bonus rate and cost you a few pennies in lost interest.

Once it's successfully through, give notice at Nationwide for the rest and tell Natwest to transfer it after 60 days. This will drop into your account and earn the bonus rate for 10 months (minus processing time).

I'd check with both Nationwide and Natwest that this procedure is OK, but it should be from what I've been told.

MigsyBigsy: what rate are you getting on the Barclays ISA? Have you finished the end of the bonus period?

Thanks for the suggestion. The only catch with that is that Nationwide only allow one withdrawl per year out of the isa bond so I think I would get a penalty for that.
I suppose I could just transfer the whole lot and lose the 60 days interest but that eats into the bonus.
My plan at the minute is just to convert my ISA bond into the fixed interest rate ISA bond which pays about 0.9% more interest. As interest rates are predicted to come down I think that might be the easiest thing to do. Thanks for the suggestion though.

You won't loose 60 days interest, see my earlier post.

  • Can anyone tell me how to change my 11 digit A&L Direct ISA account number into a sort code and account number to put on the form?

  • My situation is that this year i opened an ISA with Alliance & Leicester for the 6.25% bonus. Now its dropped to 6%. I have made my 3.6k contribution for the year.

Can i still transfer to take advantage of this natwest ISA?
Or am i done until next year

    Paid monthly so 6.25% AER.

(I thought they'd cut the rate there for a moment )

Fill the sort code box with zeros and write the 11 digit number in the a/c box, adding the extra digits next to it. This was what I was told to do by helpline and branch accepted it.
