  • Hi folks,

As I mentioned on Firewalkers thread, I am hoping to complete the coast to coast on a bike next summer. I am hoping to complete the 147 mile journey in two days.

I am going to try and raise some money for charity, so I was just wondering if anybody had any suggestions for charities.

    Regards

  • Hi MF - what a brilliant thing to do.

As for charities is there anything that is close to your heart? For example, my Mum died after a stroke so I like to support the stroke charities. I also live by the sea so support the RNLI.

  • Hi guys,

Well managed to get 1x£1 and 1x10p on the scratchcards today, so that was good.

Also managed to win £19.32 on the matched betting tonight.

Also managed NSD today as well.

  • Hi folks,

As I mentioned previously, that since coming back off holiday I feel very lucky to have seen the things I have seen, I have started to reassess my life. I realise in the past I have been quite a materialistic person and become part of the moaning culture. I need to be more grateful of the things I have done and have already. I have a house, I have a good job and I was lucky enough to go to university and have the love and support of my Mum.

As of next month I will be getting a small payrise (~2%), so I have decided to give this to charity every month.

I already signed up for a few yesterday.

So far I am doing the following:-

    NSPCC - £5 per month
Great North Air ambulance £3 per month
    Cancer Research £2 per month

I am also thinking about donating to :-

    RNLI
    St John's Ambulance
    WWF
Asthma (as I use to have asthma when I was a child)
    RNIB

And hopefully throughout the year I can raise money for charity in other ways.

  • Also I think as of next month I am going to try and complete the challenge "Pay off 20k by christmas"

However, I will try and pay off 20k by christmas 2011, as I can't really join this years challenge, unless I win the lottery

    :rotfl:

I will see how I get on.

MF, you are doing so well - I feel very, very pleased and let face it proud. This is part of the beauty of this forum at the moment - it challenges us to reflect upon who we are, what we stand for and how do we relate to the world.

I feel truly honoured to be part of this collective spirit. Who said that we don't have agency?

From your writings and musings on here, you have never struck me as particularly materialistic. But you're right that seeing how other people live and travelling makes you reassess things and realise that things that you've previously held as important are not at all.

It's really lovely that you are supporting so many charities. Good luck!

  • Hi Folks,

Had a great weekend back home. I seen the parents and bored them to death showing them all my photo's from my travels.

I then caught up with my grandad and some of my old friends.

Well October is well and truly underway. Hoping to have a few NSD this month and keep in budget for the shopping challenge. I will also see if i can do some PAD's but I might not be able to this month, with it being the first month back from the travels.

I will keep you posted anyway
